Water hose poped off intake manifold HELP

I need help real bad and fast. I have a 5.7 with a 175,000 well care for miles on it. A water hose popped off the top right side of the intake manifold tonight. It has a clip on it and what looks like a rubber O ring. What made it pop off and what is the best fix for it? I don’t want it to pop off again. Any helpful ideas are needed. My son was driving and the engine reached 280 before he got it home. Could 280 degrees cause other problem that I should be looking out for? Thanks Dave

Lightbulb

Dave don't ground him yet Pressure is most likely the culprit, ie steam if you had low fluid level or if the thermostat wouldn't open. Check the resivour coolant level and remove thermostat put it in a pot of boiling water see if it opens (was that pot real good after). Was the engine damaged? A few more miles will tell AND check: the oil see if it has and lightbrown looking cottage cheese, smell exhaust (after its turned off) see if you can smell antifreeze and check the spark on each cylinder if a sparkplug isn't firing you have a cracked head (be careful doing this so you don't shock your self).
Depending how long your son drove I doubt any real damage was done, the iron block and iron head will expand and contract at close to the same rate, which is not the case with an aluminum head. If he starts to over heat in the future pull of the road, wait for a tow ie probably you However if its a real jam he can wait for the truck to cool down then remove the thermostat this will allow coolant to flow no matter what (given he has coolant) even if your pump is bad just don't drive a long ways.

Re: Water hose poped off intake manifold HELP

My 97 was leaking from that connection and the dealer replaced the connector and hose under my GMPP Warranty at about 65k miles. It's called a "Snap-In" connector used to make the assembly line go faster. If your truck starts to heat up then gets too hot real fast or the guage doesn't move at all, then your T-stat is bad and check for steam out of the exhaust or "stuff" in the oil and that means your head gasket is gone. Make sure to have the heads saved if you replace the gaskets.

And if it gets hot again turn the heat to max and the blower on high, the heater core is like a miny radiator. But you are low on fluid that won't help!

Re: Water hose poped off intake manifold HELP

Thanks to all who helped me with this problem? I went to GM and bought the nipple this morning. I was very careful to use the right size box end wrench to remove the bad nipple out of the manifold. When I tried it of coarse broke off in the manifold. I then tried to remove the broken part out of the manifold. I did not have an easy out and not enough time to go get one so I found a taper sharp edged punch that I used. When I taped the punch in the hole it broke a dog-ear part off the manifold. Nice job Dave. I was finally able to pick and punch the old nipple out. I then used a pipe tap and put thirds deeper in the manifold. I was able to put the new nipple in with about two threads below the dog-ear broken manifold. I put it all back together and it did not seam to leak out of the broken area. The moral of the story is be very careful and always use the right tools for the job. Thanks again……. Dave
