Help!!! head replacement, broke? not right???

Hey all,

I was replacing a head gasket on one of my cars (90 dx) and noticed that a couple of the valves were burned and pretty much junk. So instead of replacing the valves I thre on a head from a 92-95 dx that I had laying around. Here comes the problem:

as soon as it turnes over, it seems like the gas is been held to the floor, it just immidiatly revs up, up, and up. then I turn it off (after like 5 seconds)!

Could this possibly have somthing to do with timing?

Please Help!

Thanks!

Re: Help!!! head replacement, broke? not right???

doubt it, make sure the idle screw is there, make sure the throtle angle sensor isn't bad. That little black canister solinoid looking thing on the intake, forget what it is called, someone will say in another post after this what it is called, clean it out good w/ some brake cleaner or something. If the timing was out it would more than likely spit and sputter or not fire up at all. Are you getting any engine codes? And also not sure on the 90 DX, but on my 89 HF my map sensor was on the fire wall and i had to re-rout my wires for the new map sensor to the top of the TB. But sounds like either your missing the idle screw and lots of air is getting past the butterfly or there is a sensor gone bad letting the butterfly open up while the car is idleing. Also work the thing that the throttle cable connects to and see if it may just be stuck open, and take off your throttle cable and fire it up and see if it does it, i am not sure but your throttle cable may be too short but like i said i am not sure about the DX.

Id be willing to bet its the throttle cable... Its probably too tight...

Also did u swap over to OBD1, and use the 93 DXs intake mani? Or did u just swap the head itself and kept eveything else from your old engine? If thats the case, chances are its not a sensor, as u should have kept your old sensors and they would be working fine before the swap... This is the main reason I think its the throttle cable...
