Angry Power windows switch

I have a Pontiac Montana 1999 with power window problem. After troubleshooting I found that the switch was defective on the up position. Does any body know how to repair the switch because the thing is $150.00 and its not guaranty. I was told that this problem is common on this type of car.

Thanks,

Niq

Someone is trying to rip you off big time. The drivers side switch lists for $70 but tell em you can find them OEM from GM online for around $50 and they'll cut you a deal. I don't beleive I paid more then $40 for mine a few years ago. eBay also has a few switches up now (do a search for montana window switch) starting at $15 but those switches are black (pontiacs are grey). There is also junk yards.

It's fairly simple to replace the switch module. I don't even beleive you have to pop the door panel off...but it's been a while since I did mine so I forget to tell you the truth.

Re: Power windows switch

I bought mine for my Venture for around $40-$45 from an online dealer a couple of years ago. That was A LOT cheaper than any price I got from my local GM stealerships. To replace the switch, just gently pry up on the panel that houses the switches, and disconnect the old and replace with the new one, and pop the panel back into the door panel.

The drivers' door switch is the main switch and when that does not work, the passenger side switch will not operate. I had a problem with my passenger switch not working. I checked and there was no power to the switch. I checked the driver's side and that would operate the driver's side window but not the passenger's side. I replaced the driver's side switch and everything was working fine once again. On a side note: the replacement switch I bought online had a different color backlight than the original. (The original was a greenish white colored light within the switch, while the new switch has an orangish-red color back light.) The only time you really notice this is at night with the lights on. It really did not bother me, but for those who like to keep a certain continuous appearance to their van might want to check and see with the online dealer(if they so purchase it from them,)what color the light is on the switch. Some online dealer sites have "live chat" where you can ask an employee, or you can phone them or email them. I got a good deal on my switch, so it really didn't bother me at all, (actually I like the orangish glow at night.)

2003 Pontiac Montana WINDOW Problem

Help!!!! My wife and I recently were on our way from Milw back to KC, we had the windows down and then up throughout the trip, no problems. I pulled into a rest area and went lower the windows for the kids and neither the drivers or the passengers worked. Then out of no where my wife utilizing the switch on her side was able to crack it about 3 inches but not able to raise it. I have check all breakers and fuses but they still will not work. Is it the master one on my side? I did fiddle with the passenger side yeaterday and the window went down 2 more inches but not up, and the drivers side still will not control either. Any troubleshooting help would be greatly appreciated before I purchase online a new drivers side switch.
Thank you in advance.

I had a similar problem. The drivers side switch would lower the passenger window but not raise it. The passenger side would do both. So rather than buy a new switch (I like to see if I can make it work first) I took the drivers switch out, dissasembled it and found that the rocker contacts were very dirty. I cleaned them up, resoldered a few broken joints and it works perfectly now.

Re: Power windows switch

Can anyone tell me how to check the PS window up/down switch on the DS door mounted control panel using an OHM meter? Which pins should you test for continuity when selecting up and which pins when you select down?

THx
