wrecked grand am

bad news, my GA got ditched today. i was driving along and all of a sudden the back brakes locked up and spun me into the ditch. bumper is messed up pretty bad as the mounting tabs are bent to hell. front fascia is cracked in front of the a/c condenser thing, fog light broke, trunk is misaligned. i am fine, just a sore shoulder. GA doesnt look the greatest right now but owell. me and my cousin are fine so thats the main thing. ill get an estimate sometime and see how much its gonna be to fix and im afraid to see what it will be.

Re: wrecked grand am

Wow that sucks. I can feel for you man - I've been in my share of accidents, and in my 1st my Grand Am was totalled (rolled twice going 70) - I was fine, and after about a 1/2 year it was rebuilt. Glad to hear you're alright. How exactly did the back brakes lock up?

wow im sure that wasnt the greatest experience. my dad and i are stumped on what would have caused em to lock. only thing i can think of is something broke but dont know what or anything. have any ideas on what u think could have happened? ive only had the car a little over 4 months. this will definitely cause me to be more careful when driving. 18 yr olds need to slow down. lol

Re: wrecked grand am

Sorry to hear about the accident, as long as you are OK!, Remember sheet metal is made to bend, and can be repaired. Keep in mind that the GA is buildt with Crumple Zones...they absorb the energy from the impact so the passanger compartment doesn't take a big hit, so I'm sure it looks alot worse than it is. If the ins.co. doesn't total it make sure you insist on original manufacturer parts. Make sure the repair shop doesn't use imported body panels, they just don't hold up.

You didn't mention...did the bags blow?

Glad you and your cousin are OK.

Dan

no the bags didnt blow. i dont think my parents are gonna turn it into insurance. my dad says we can fix it ourselves. they dont want the insurance to go up anymore since im 18 and its already expensive. if i need to replace parts i can go to a salvage yard around here and get what i need. the only thing i see that i would possibly need is a rear bumper and a foglight since the one broke.

Re: wrecked grand am

Glad to hear that you're all right. I also hope that you're GA is going to be easy to get back onto the road. Best of luck to you, and keep 'em out of the ditches. :P

well glad to hear you and your cousin are ok. You are probably better off not telling the insurance company and doing it yourself, to prevent higher rates, plus there would be a good chance that they wouldn't fix the car ( depending on the amount of damage) good luck
