Re: jspec 1.5vtec????!!!

i did the swap in my CRX and i am more than happy with the difference, but i did go from a hf motor to this one so i pretty much doubled my previous Hp. And the engine code on my motor on the block was "ZC" and that's all it said but if you buy the motor from a business that sells them then ask for the d15 vtec, Don't get the D16 vtec if you can help it cause it'll have alot more miles on it since it is a motor that was put out in the US, so it'll have much higher miles more than likely.

Then you've got a ZC engine, not a D15b vtec. The D15b vtec's were made from '92 on.

Your engine is a ZC then, if it looks just like the D15B VTEC, then its the SOHC VTEC version of the ZC (yes they exist)... Same as the D15B, except its 1.6 liters, instead of 1.5 liters... Same agressive cam... And same block as the US D16Z6...

Re: jspec 1.5vtec????!!!

What is the HP rating on that motor anyone know? The "ZC " is what i am refering to. Cause, well, i put intake header and full exaust on it and it runs pretty quick. One of these days i am going to try and get a 0-60 time and a quarter mile time when ever i can get the means to do so, but it's pretty quick, I am hanging w/ the 2002 RSX, not the type s though, but i am right on the door up to about 90 mph then i throw it into third and pulled up to his bumper and we let off at about 115mph cause we ran up on some traffic. But even running the HF tranny, i think may be an advantage cause you can seriously wind out the motor w/ those long gears, once vtec kicks in the rpms climb very quick from i think its about 4400 rpm up to about 6700 rpm. I took it to 7000rpm a couple of times in second and i am runnin about 95 mph, so i give the hf tranny a thumbs up cause i can even grab second which has been unheard of with anything Hf. But all in all the swap is a fairly easy one w/ a good gain in performance. So go for it, it's fun!!!

Re: jspec 1.5vtec????!!!

90mph in second?... that just sounds

I'd really like to see what a race would be like against a set up like that where you're waiting to shift forever and bouncing off the speed limiter in 3rd or 4th gear on hf axles... and I'm in 5th over 5000rpms over 100mph pulling like a mofo...

Re: jspec 1.5vtec????!!!

The HP of the SOHC ZC VTEC is probably around 130 like the D15B VTEC, but its probably got more torque (since its displacement is .1 more), but it wont be much, Id say maybe 111 ft lbs, compared to the 106 in the D15B... But hey, every little bit counts, specially when it comes to Hondas that have little torque to begin with...

Heres a bit more info on it:

http://asia.vtec.net/topics/zc.html

Has some of the specs specs on it, and even the original car it came from!

Note that 130 PS is a little bit less than 130 HP, I cant rem off hand the exact conversion, but its a tad less, I think the D15B is also 130 PS, but ppl just round it up, and its actually like 125-128 HP...

Re: jspec 1.5vtec????!!!

I can go about 72 in second gear, at about 8500 RPM.

Re: jspec 1.5vtec????!!!

you can go 100mph in 2nd if u wanted...but i see no point besides to mess up ur tranny...no real benefit seeing that you're alreay out of your powerband

Re: jspec 1.5vtec????!!!

Heres a good question about powerbands.. if you had other mods done to your car.. such as aftermarket intake manifold and throttle body, port polished head with cams and all the works.. including but not limited to a turbo... wouldn't your powerband be different than a stock motor? So.. maybe 72 mph.. or even a hundred could possibly still be in your powerband??
