I have a Hurst Competition Plus 4 speed shifter. It’s “rickety” for lack of a better word.
Like, you can hear the rods banging into each other when you move the stick. While reattaching the shifter to the transmission (and thank you all for you help with that) I noticed that the nuts holding the rods onto the shifter were not tight, leaving a little play in the rods. The nuts were not LOOSE, just not snug against the rods.Occasionally when you shift out of reverse it gets stuck and you have to wiggle it to get it out. (HAR!) After that sometimes it gets stuck in first, and same thing, wiggle it and it comes out of first and then it’s fine for a while, every once in a while it’ll do it two or three times in a row (meaning every time you use reverse). ![]() Should I tighten up the nuts that hold the rods onto the shifter to eliminate the play and the rods coming into contact with each other? Will that fix all these issues? Or is that a bad idea? ![]() Thanks |

Re: Shifter Question
tighten them and if it fixes your problem well then there you go... if it makes it worse then go back and loosen them....
