Knock Knock; Whats this in my SR?

Yes i have searched and came up with rods, bearings, pistons ect... But my question is that i can NOT hear it at idle, it ony happends at around 3k rpms (rev and driving conditions). After that it seems to go away. My compression is at 150psi all four. There is no debry in the oil pan or the oil pick up screen. I have the whole motor out. Anything i should check for or go about doing. Thanks

Your engine is knocking which means you are not running enough octane or you are running to lean. Check for burn marks on the pistons.

wait, if one is to run say super lean it would be a reason or the reason for knocking. because i am knocking so bad right now. not once have i let my car get low on oil or anything such to hurt my motor ka24de btw and it runs strong. plus, i know i run super lean because i get great gas mileage.

check your MAF and maybe your o2 sensors and see if it helps at all....

yes octane does tend to do this. What type of gas you putting in your sr?? Doesnt the ol j-land have higher octane gas than us. So i would say try premium??

But would low octane cause it to do it only at 3k rpm??? I have never had a knock problem so....well i guess it kinda makes sense....more air more fuel, not enough octane, then the knock goes. Or maybe your sr is a jokster and likes to tell knock knock jokes??? I mean the japanese always laugh at americans.

yea what type of gas are you putting in? 87 will cause the ka24 to knock. you need at least 89 in there.

I use 93 but lately since prices have been high, i used 89 but it never had any problems. Would i be able to hear the knock from the car if it was fuel

you'll hear it ping, it will just be like a "ping ping ping" while driving. you don't need 93, you'll probably run better with 89 because it takes less to spark the fuel.

I took the whole motor apart and found a bad bearing on the third rod. Time to buy some parts

soo... you used 89 and it pinged so bad it killed a bearing... at least it didnt fuckzor your ringlands.


my Record.

1st SR - lost to General crappyness (found out the motor has seen a shitload of RPM and been fixed hackassedly.)

2nd SR - #4 bearing lost to a dented oil pan (less than one CM will starve a motor - heads up)

3rd SR - either shavings from the old bearing or the guy didnt fix it right.





Ive been down the lost motors road and it gets embarrasing real fast and Ive just had generally shitty luck with SRs and its so I'm taking it as its time to do something crazy... like a VK41DE
