Nissan Quest 2000 engine nightmare

9 months ago on a long trip, my oil light on my Nissan Quest 2000 came on and my engine began to make a rattling noise. My oil also became hot. When I returned home I brought it into the shop and the Nissan dealer said that I needed more oil, but I had just had the oil changed before I went on the trip. About 3 weeks later it happened again on another long trip. This time the dealership told me it was a coolant problem, due to a faulty radiator cap. Althought this sounded rediculous, I am not a mechanic and I believed them. Nine months later, on another long trip, it happened again and this time my engine seized. I brought it back to the dealership. While they sat on my car for a month and a half doing nothing, they finally determined that this was my fault due to lack of oil changes. I gave them 20,000 worth of oil changes dating back to 2003. I also explained that I had been in there twice before with this problem and I am still under warranty with my 60,000 mile power train warranty. They didn't care. This is my fourth Nissan and I will never buy another one as long as I live. I have never been treated this way by any company before. They just bought time hoping I would go away, never returning my calls or giving me any answers. The mechanic who finally put an engine in for me said he believes it was a faulty PCV valve or crank shaft. I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem with their Quests. I need as much information on this that I can find. I am going to have to pursue this in court unfortunately.

Is anybody else having problems with Nissan consumer affairs? Are you having trouble getting Nissan to fulfill the promise on your warranty? If so, I would really like to know.

I have exactly the same problem. The dealer says I need a new engine and Nissan will not stand behind their warranty. They are claiming that the engine is filled with sludge and that 4 oil changes in 18,000 miles wasn't enough. We can't find the receipt for the third oil change and they're basing their denial on that. I am going to file a claim with the BBB, but I don't even know what to do about the van. I wonder if this is a recurrent theme with Nissan.

If you go onto the website for The Center for Auto Safety/Consumer Complaints you will find that this problem is existing in tons of minivans. Lots of different manufacturers have admitted to this problem finally because of the amount of complaints. Nissan has yet to. I have filed a complaint with my Attorney General and I will continue with a lawsuit if I have to. I will not let them get away with this. Keep pursuing this.

Re: Nissan Quest 2000 engine nightmare

you should put 5-30 oil at all time, i got quest 01 , i alway put 5-30 oil, one time i put 10-40 it run and sound funny, i believed nissan they build engine with small oil passage lube inside the engine, therefore if you used thick oil ,it take more time to lube when engine is runnung, special when you just started, it make noise
