Outside Door Handle

First off, hello. You guys have quite a forum going here!!!

I am the proud owner of a 1996 GMC Safari with a slight driver-side outside door handle problem: it don't work! Ugh.

I have a new one, and I've removed the door panels. I can not (for the life of me) see how to change this darned thing. Heck, I can barely see the bolts!!

Any tips on how to finish this project?

<I have power windows and power door locks . . . does this make a difference?>

I have just encountered the same problem. My drivers side outside door handle just made a "pop" the other day, and won't open the door, like its locked. I'm about to order the part and replace it, any tips that you could pass along if you finally figured it out would be great. Thanks in advance.

there are two bolts and a metal line holding the handle on. very hard to see and not enough space. take off the 2 bolts and the metal line and remove the old handle...put the new one in and put everyting back together. before you put the door panel back on make sure the line for the door lock doesn't come off. it happened to me and i had to take the door panel off.

remove door panel, use an extension to get your socket in there and remove the old handle. the pop may have been one of the rods coming off there should be a clip to hold it in place maybe thats what broke. hard to say till you take it apart.. might only be the rod orclip.. have to pull the panel to see. after putting in the new parts that are needed get some white lithium grease and spray the moving parts.. work much better and last longer
