05 Mustang GT vector toon

Okay, now I'm back at my "normal" toon style.

Black is a difficult color for me to give depth.
Tried a different idea for the reflections.
Any suggestions for working with a black colored car?

Re: 05 Mustang GT vector toon

Hi Blip,

Your toon rocks.
Have you tried using blue when rendering a black car for the parts facing the sky?

Maybe Lemorris or Bonz can help more.

Again on the composition change it up some. you have the street, car, and oval stacked on top of each other. Try moving the oval to the left (just a little), allowing the nose of the car to stick out and then change the lines of the street. Perhaps make them shoot towards the right bottom corner.

That is cool!
It really reads as 3d
I like the glass alot.
You need some nice solid white cut
hilights on the hood and side.

Looks great, the wheels are sweet, some details on the grill would make it even better

Re: 05 Mustang GT vector toon

I'm likin it Blip.

Since you have that hot orange in the back maybe you could dance alittle of it's color into the hottest parts of your highlights. Tedder does it all the time and it's great.

I'd like to see some detail or a honeycomb pattern or something in the grill. Maybe show it recessed and just make the innards black. The detail in the dam below is great, the grill could use similar treatment.

I'm lovin the wheels...maybe ad an inner ring to separate the rim from the rubber, and define the shadow bits as shapes as opposed to tones.

Your work is great, I get inspired by your drive. You're fearless.

Re: 05 Mustang GT vector toon

Thanks all!

Al, I'll shift the overall layout around.
Hadn't thought about using blue to make black, I use grey and white gradient fades. But looking at some of Tedders' work, I see blue in his black designs.

Lemorris, also looked more closely at how Tedder bounces the background as reflections off the bodywork.
I'll try adding some relections "shapes," instead of gradient fades to the wheels.

grant, the design could use a couple of "white" hot spots.

And I did "cop out" on the grill. The ref pics have the grill hidden in shadows, because of the light source coming from the rear of the car, but putting some detail in there could help anchor the foglights.

Time for the revision.

Great toon Blip! I agree with Al and Lemorris, some colored reflections on the car would look great.

Blip... As all have said... Your Stang Rocks.. love the wheels and smooth gradients... the open grill is the only empty spot... like leemoris says, a honeycomb-type pattern would set it off. Looking forward to seeing another post using all the CC's given.. It would certainly add to my learning book. Keep up the great work. Robo

Re: 05 Mustang GT vector toon

Robo--thanks for the poke with the stick.
I had forgotten about this one.

Here's the updated version of the toon.
May have gone too blue with the reflections.
(For Mods, hope it's okay that I'm going a little more life to this "dead" thread.)

Re: Re: 05 Mustang GT vector toon

Blip I think the hilights are still a little too soft.
They give the hood the same look of rubber that the tires have.
Instead of polished and shiny it reads as matte and soft.
It still looks good though.

Re: 05 Mustang GT vector toon

Thanks, I still have a lot to learn about digital drawing.

It's a vector program called Expression 3.
I got it about a year ago as a free beta download from Microsoft.
They just released a newer version beta now called "Acrylic" which is available as a free download,
but it has a self-destruct date of Dec 31 2005.
(Lemorris has already posted a thread about it.)

Looks like M/S may release a retail version later this year.
It's easier for me to use than Adobe Illustrator.
