Underdrive pulley( aftermarket pulley)
hi
I have a 1995 honda civic EX,recently my local mechanic did the timing belt on my car ...after i picked it and drove for 2 days the carnk pulley came off and fell. towed the car back to his place ...got another one did not look like the same one ( it was froma civic LX) when you compare them both they are very different.I bought the after market underdrive pulley also..I had the mechanic put the one from honda LX and the car was run very stiff very heavy...no performance.then i swapped it with the performance one it was worst...coz my mechanic could not get the timing right..i had bend value car was running more shity.Got sick and tired from all this drama took the car to Honda dealer.they put the honda lx pulley back on it.the car runs like new very smooth no noise, but some how i feel that the drive with the Ex pulley was diff.Out off 100 i would say the performance came back up 80%. did some research on it couldn't find more info..they guy at honda dealership is a motorhead when it comes to honda. i couldn't have been much happier with the money i paid...but still the doubt in my mind is irrating me. I have reads some of the forums and the guys responding seems very knowledgeble...would be pleased to hear your comments on this issue. Thanks |

Ive always thought, and key word here, thought. Ive been told that the crank pulley is something of a persise thing and is best left stock. Its the accessory pulley's that give you a bit on the performance side, but please corect me if Im wrong.

Yes
Lots of mechs recomended that it should be left alone, I had no other option but to settle for the one i was getting Civic LX.But still the main question remains that after the pulley swap..i don't feel the VTEC kicking in,at higher rmp feels a little power but the lower ends feels like a drag .I have re checked the timing and it on the dime.timing |

Well, the LX pulley I believe is not on a Vtec engine or made for one. It might seem like a simple thing, go online, search for your engine and look for a OEM pulley for you 95 EX and get it replaced. I mean, it couldnt hurt to return it to what it was and is suppose to be?
Hope it helps.

The pulley is not cheap plus have to spend the money on labour to put it in.Honda says that they are both the pulley are same dimension and really does not make a difference. But to me as a driver i know the car is not running up to the standard.when the pulley came out .......Honda took me back and showed me the damage my local mechanic had did to the crank ..When he put everthing back in he told be that it would be very difficult to predict that if the pulley might come out again,Don't mind spending the money also to buy the OEM pulley for EX,but the risk that it can be put back together....so really have to figure out whether that is what cozing the car to run sluggish. has anything to do with the cranck pulley.

Re: Underdrive pulley( aftermarket pulley)
Did they make sure to check if there was any damage done to the engine when the pulley fell off? Maybe it's not the pulley at all, and it's some kind of damage done?

No damage to the engine..they re adjusted the vals setting.Only that the thread in which the bolts goes that holds the pulley was 60% damaged.they put the bolt back in with lock tight..have it check twice looks good. |
