Acceleration Problems

Posted this in the general forum below before I saw this, but I'll copy and paste it anyway...

Hey everybody, hoping to get some help...
Got a '95 Camaro 3.4L V6...
Starts fine, but when idling in park or neutral, rpm's dip about 100 rpm spradically. When I put it in gear, the dip in rpm's gets more noticeable (didn't record the amount of dip though). Now, when trying to accelerate, it surges, spits, sputters, and generally has a hell of a time getting up to speed. Noticed also that the temp gauge was pretty high. Checked fluid levels and all were well.

Trying to get a code reader now to see if it'll tell me anything.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Acceleration Problems

Take it to an auto parts store most of them will scan it for free and may even be able to tell you what the codes could mean so you have a better idea what you may need.

Sounds to me like your distributor cap isnt on properly, happend to me whenever I changed out my ignition sensor and I didnt put it back on right, if im correct the rpms should be jumping around like crazy, but if not then im wrong and dont know what it is.

And most places can't read the codes on a '95. Something about it having the OBD I system with an OBD II connector.
Taking it to Pep Boys today to have it hooked up to some diagnostic equipment. Anybody recommend against this?

Re: Acceleration Problems

Yeah, that was the year lot of them were switching from OBD I to OBD II so for some reason they put in a combination of the systems that year.

Yep, it was a coil pack... 1/4 to be exact about it. Just changed it out and took it for a drive... works like a champ!
