AMP whine

Im in the middle of switching out my stock 6x9's for my new audiobahns, so im just using my 3.5's in the front, i heard something new, my amp whines. its barly audible, and when i had the 6x9's they covered it up. but seeing as there not there anymore i cant hear it, and it gets louder as i accelerate. i have my amp unhooked now, my friend said his 2 amps both due it. from what ive read it is a grounding problem, but i have it grounded to a sanded section of the chassis, but its the same piece of metal that the amp is mounted on, could this be causing some sort of feedback?

and another question, the audiobahn 6x9 sounds like shit compared to the stock, could this be because it is not mounted? its sitting in my trunk and i wanted to check them to see if they would indeed work, and the bass output and lower-midranges are almost non existent. and teh stocks hit hard enough to shake my side mirrors, although the voice coil on my left one started giving off small amounts of smoke.... but thats besides the point. will mounting the audiobahns correct this? the mounting isnt an encloseure or anything, its a stock location in my rear deck.

Audiobahn 6X9's...
They won't last long, trust me...
My old Audiopawn 6X9's had quite a bit of output, didn't really sound that great, but they did put out...:P
once you have them mounted you shouldn't have a ton of cancellation, and there should be much more lower output that free-air... of course...

they have to last for a few months, ill prolly get some MBwuart or boston acoustics. in july im getting myc sub stage hopefully so theyll only be midranges.

The amp still whines,does anyone know if this is something detrimental to the health of my system?!

and @ low volumes my 6x9s seem to crackle/distort, but they sound fine @ higher volumes. but anything below about 1/2 sounds really bad. 1/2 is there rms, could running them below RMS cause a problem? i wouldnt think it would but ive checked everything else, the cones are fine, there brand new, the VC looks fine. the bottom of each speaker is hot, but not the VC or anyother part of the speaker.

check your RCA's, make sure they are not near the power wire.

um... lmao.... i dont exactly HAVE RCAS.... i have low level [read speaker wire] inputso n my amp. the right one does run past the power wire.... this could explain why only the right channel is messed up.... hurm.... anyone else got any ideas?

seperate them, zip ties in the car audio world are wonderous. then come bak at me if the noise doesnt go away.

It's time for me to step in here. First off, your system is going to always have problems until you correct things. Obviously with me not seeing it, I can't say really what the problem is but here the most common with engine noise....

Cheap amps always let crap bleed through
bad power or grounds
high level inputs
weak car battery
weak or poor running altinator
poor power or grounds on stereo


What I would do is disconnect the speaker inputs to the amp and see if you still hear it. If you do, then it's with the power,ground, or battery/altinator. Many people have absolutely no idea that a battery that's just a tad on the weak side will cause the altinator to overwork which will cause the noise.

What type of vehicle is it? your other option is an noise isolator, some vehicles just have crappy alternators/regulators and noise is intorduced when you use budget amps.

My buddy's Z28 has this problem,
It seems to piss me off more than him,
The CarToys guy that he trusts says its his amp, and that he switched it out with another amp to test for bad wires/battery/alt,
I dont really trust the guy, but my buddy has alreay beefed up his alternator, and is going to upgrade to a yellow top six pack (has a red top six pack) battery. he has a noise isolator but it has not stopped the noise.

Also when hes idleing and has his system/lights on you can watch his bat. gauge drop, or roll his windows down and tell its drained,

Its an annoying whine, I knew about all the possibilities listed for a whine,

sounds like a bad ground, RCA's ran by the power wire or other electical source or just a shitty amp...

its a 1987 Oldsmobile Regency.
The amp is crappy, but ill disconnect the speaker inputs and see if thats the problem. also, its grounded to the same piece of steel that its mounted on, could this be causing feedback?

what about the speaker noice? i never noticed it on the stock speakers, but these are definatly more sensitive and of higher quality then the stocks, there not the greatest, but better then stock. there Magaudio Dub 6x9's, the motor and VC and all that shit is audiobahn. theres a small gap between the frame of the speaker and car, could this be causing it. there is no woofer damage, and i cant hear it @ loud volume, although its so loud it could still be there. i can take a picture of the setup awhen i get home and have them loaded tonight.

where should the amp be grounded?

the blackish wire running up and left away from the amp. and ignore the stupid box in the front of the trunk ,its not there anymore.
