95 Caravan Shifting issues

I recently aquired a 95 dodge caravan. It has 115k miles, its on its second transmission, not too sure when it was installed. My concern is this. There is almost like a delayed shift, when i shift from drive to reverse, it will go forward a bit then quickly reverse with a little gas. this is avoidable most of the time if you wait after you shift into reverse. you could hear and feel a bump in the car (the transmission shifting gears i guess). also when i brake you could hear and feel this same bumping as the car comes to a hault and again when i give it some gas. this is avoidable if i stop a little short, and reallllly ease on the gas. i hope i am descriptive enough, dont really know much about cars. should i have this looked at immediately? and will this be a big hit to my pocket? thanks in advance for any help.

Re: 95 Caravan Shifting issues

your transmission is probably suffering from having the wrong fluid in it. My suggestion, since you recently aquired it, it appears on your post that you may not know too much about the condition of the transmission and/or fluid condition, I'd suggest have a tune-up done. This time use Chrysler ATF+3 in your transmission; if you go to a Bill Joe Bob shop, make sure you request Mopar ATF+3, that's the only fluid that's supposed to running in your transmission. Another thing you might want to do is go to a local Chrysler dealer and have the TCM (transmission control module) programming updated. Those two things can improve transmission output and performance.

Just an update, the car has recently gotten worse, with added wobbling in the front. It turns out that the motor mounts are shot, they need to be replaced and that should cure the problem. Thanks for the help though.
