Dad's 97 silverado dies......

heres what i know....my dad will start up his truck after putting it in drive or reverse it will die on him....the clock on the stereo resets but not the radio station....he has checked the battery cables but their not loose....i've told him that first he needs to get his oil changed as well as the oil, air and fuel filters changed....he is afraid that the computer is going out but i don't think so....any thoughts from you guys would be great....thanx

to anyone willing to give any suggestions on what could be going wrong with my DAD'S '97 SILVERADO 7.1 liter vortec 3/4 ton....please help

i am willing to give suggestions, i just think that the c/k forum would be better suited for your problem.....i dont think it would be neccasarily a computer going out but maybe something to do with programming...if its comp. related....have you checked fuel pressure?alternator?idle control valve???the only reason i suggested the c/k forum was because if this was a well known problem, they would have a much better idea than the silverado(99-present)forum... your SILVERADO is actually a C/K truck(88-98)look here:
