Two questions... one post
Two questions rolled into one post. First, what do you feel is the best chip for a 00 jetta vr6. Please, please include why.
Second. When my jetta is at idle, the lights kinda flicker a little. 2 or so times a second. I've tried coil, plug wires, plugs, and it's not the MAF. Any ideas?? |

Re: Two questions... one post
Have someone with a charging system analyzer check the alternator, particularly the diode condition.

Last winter I had some lights flickering in my 02 Golf, but didn't really think much of it. A little while later, I started getting flashing and beeping from the Brake and ABS lights on the dash. After a little searching around on the web, I found that the brake problems might be from a bad ground. I had to remove the battery and the battery box, and underneath all that was the ground associated with the brakes(it's one of a couple grounds there). I cleaned that up, and both the warning lights and the flicker disappeared. I don't know if this was the same problem you're having, but if you don't find any trouble with the alternator it might be a good idea to start checking that your grounds aren't corroded or otherwise dirty.

Re: Two questions... one post
Checking grounds doesn't sound like an awful idea at all if the alternator turns out to be alright. I can only describe what the lights do as dimming quickly. They don't truly go out, it's just like a weak strobe. Usually it does it when the car is at idle, but once in a while it will even do it at highway speeds. At idle there's nothing I can do, but at highway speeds I can push in the clutch and rev the engine once or twice and that fixes it for a while. It does it on clear nights, or rainy ones. (It seems to do it durring the day too, but as shocking as it sounds it's much less noticable... hmmm)
