ABS wheel sensor

Been having an ABS problem for almost a yr now and I was wondering if it has anything to do with my tire size? I have the stock rims on a 96 lude si and it calls for 6.5 width but the car had new 7's on it when I bought it. I want new rims and I was gonna just put the new tires on the new rims, but I was wondering if the wheel sensors could be inaccurate 'cause of tire size?

I know some 15's are available for the 7" width's and maybe the offset adjusts for the speed sensors? This is just a hunch and I don't want to buy new 6.5" rims when this problem is likely to occur afterwards, and I also don't want to take it in to the shop and have the wheel sensor replaced when it could be related to the rims and tire sizes.

If anyone has had this type of problem before, please let me know if this is true. My ABS light comes on sometimes, the breaks vibrate when coming to a complete stop (pedal feels like it's kicking back), and VERY loud (electrical) pulsating sounds too. Once the break is firmly down, the pedal drops way down, almost to the floor. Complicating the matter is the fact that the ABS is supposed to automatically disable when the light is on and only disc breaking is available.. but my breaks still feel like ABS instead of disc breaks?!

Seems like the front passenger side causes this, but again just a hunch 'cause I think the control unit and pressurizing is over there.

This problem went away completely during the winter, but has since returned now that the weather is getting warmer.. I live in MI.

This hunch really limits what rims I want 'cause most are for 6.5" tires. I can not afford new 16's/17's and new tires, and my tires are fairly new.. so, please help. Thanks, and sorry for such a long post!

Re: ABS wheel sensor

Rims and tire size won't affect the ABS the only thing that will is if you run smaller size tire on the fronts and larger ones on the rear. If they are all the same size your ok.

Basically all the abs unit is looking for is the same pulse from each wheel, if you runn 2 different tire sizes the pulse from one wheel will be slower or faster than the others and the unit will think that the wheel is locking up.

I had a guy with an 01 lude and he had stock wheels in the front and 18's in the rear. He had an ABS and Atts lite on. Put the same tires all the way around and he had no problems

Re: ABS wheel sensor

Yeah, sounds right to me. Anybody know how much repairs run on a new sensor?
