Question.

Hey all, I'm a newbie driver who's contemplating buying a car. Usually, I'm drawn to big manly cars like the Pathfinder (I like the height and rugged-ness of SUVs) but you know how the way gas prices are rising...

Well, what attracted me to the Tiburon Tuscani is its looks, price, and all the features for the price! Oh, and the fact it isn't a common car here - not much of a conformist I suppose. (That's why I don't want to buy a Japanese car.) And it doesn't hurt it's made in Korea I suppose. (Korean-born here.) BUTT, the big question for me is, is it reliable in the long run? (Hyundai doesn't have the greatest track record, although it's looking a lot better.) I don't care about how fast it goes.. that's not what I'm looking for in a car. (I'd get an automatic anwayy.. don't know how to drive stick! Only guys are crazy for speed anyway. ;P And I don't really know anything about engines and V6-and all that junk anyway..) I just want to know if it's reliable and it won't give me a lot of fuss. (last thing a newbie driver needs!) Will it break down? Has someone had this car for a while now? Has it given you any trouble? I just need to get from Point A to Point B. Not asking too much in a car! I won't be travelling too TOO far. To school and stuff.. I don't think I'd be taking it for road trips and such! A few people I know who own Hyundais have complained about their engines breaking down and such... (A sonata and santa fe)

So, any insights?

It might be silly I don't care about the speed and junk.. but like I said, other things attracted me to it. ;D

are you trying to compensate for something with SUVs?

oh yea it hasnt given me any fuss yet and i've had it since october

Well where do you live? Cuz here in the US Hyundai has a 10yr/100,000 mile warranty. So that basically means you will never have to worry aboout paying for stuff that breaks. The new Hyundai's are FAR superior to anything they made in the 80's. I am not saying that NOTHING will go wrong with the car, but lemons happen, it's just a fact of life. If I were you and wanted something that didn't look bad, was decent priced, and was a daily driver, I'd choose the Tib, or a Scion Tc.

I like big cars because of the safety factor, silly! ;P

I live in Canada by the way.. It doesn't come with the same warranty here, unfortunately!

Oh, and another question - can you still give this car regular gas? Yeah, I'm clueless - I think we figured that out by the first post. ;]

I don't plan to mod the car.. (gasp) but I do want tons of accessories to begin with.. the fuel door, the steel wheel, spoiler, yadayada.

the V6 has good power for the price... and since youre keeping it stock, you should take full advantage of the warranty...

well my girl's had hers since 01 and there's only been a need to replace the radiator cap.

it's a sturdy vehicle and at the dealer by my house, it's a 20 year 200000 mile warranty... Beat that!

Only a couple of minor problems here. A broken sway bar link mounting tab on one of the reat struts. Most likely due to the heavier bar I put on. So I put the stocker back on went to the dealer and they covered it. Also recently the driver's side window is going in & out. This is from a loose connection at the window motor. Again, it's covered. I recal to move the rear brake lines.In spite of the modding I've done, it's holding up just fine. Then again I don't beat on it.
