1982 factory car alarm

i just bought a 1982 corvette from out of state.i had it a couple of weeks , when all of a sudden after i lock it and come back to get in it the factory alarm gos off, i did not know this was on the car, i have no remotes , so i called a friend who has a vette, he told me to turn the key in the drivers door to shut off the alarm it would not shut off so i waited a few minutes and it went off so i did as my friend told me still the same, so i got in and tried to start the car , it would not start, it was locked up, so i had to disconnect the battery and connect it, it let me start the car and the alarm did not go off but know my power locks wont work. i took this problem to a car alarm specalist where i live, he looked for a chip on the inside wheel well but could not find anything, thinks that at some point in the last 23 years it was taken off for repairs and never reinstalled. he could not fix the problem, even though the alarm has not gone off again, i have tried to get it to, but it wont. how can i fix this , is there anyway to get a new remote or was there any remotes back then . please help ,a follow up, now where will the factory alarm be placed if it is factory?????

Re: 1982 factory car alarm

Well, maybe I can help. I've been in the alarm bizz for over 10 years and I grew up with Vettes. Most of the Vettes of that style never came with OEM alarms, well, not what we are use to. The most common one was one in which they pout a keyed switch on the driver's fender. It looked just like a regular lock that you'd see for the doors. This might be what your guy was looking for. Sometimes they were right in the open while other times they were a little more concealed.

Now, GM did have a crued alarm that was set up on some higher end vehicles like Vettes and Caddys. I had a 79 Eldorado that would do weird things like you stated. I ended up finding the disarm wire and permenantely grounded it. These system were real primative. All that was needed to disarm them was unlock either front door. This holds true for the Vettes although some only had locks on the driver's door. What may be going on is the switch in the door is worn. I'd either try to replace that switch or find that disarm wire and ground it. On most of the old GM cars, that wire color was green or green/black.

hope this hepls
