neon's/led fitting questions.

I was about to order a led undercar kit from crutchfield.com but I had a few questions..

The sides state that they are 50" and the front and back are 25".

I'm pretty sure the front and back will fit. But I was wondering from someone who has installed them on the sides how long is a safe length? Do I have to leave clearance for anything? I've never mounted them before.. from my understanding they just go into the frame of the car is that correct?

I tried searching on here for the clearance but I couldn't find anything.

Re: neon's/led fitting questions.

On the back, it sits ALL the way up in the bumper. You see on my signature pic where the license plate sits? It's directly behind there. It sits on where the lower bumper connects to the upper piece. Its high up, yes... but with LEDs, its still bright. Also lights up your muffler really well. lol. Alittle double-sided tape and a zip tie or 2 works really well to hold it up there. The wire for it then run on the underside of the car, through the back suspension, and along the rightside of the car, along with the right side LED tube and wire

Re: Re: neon's/led fitting questions.

I'm going to place an order for them tonight. When they arrive I'll post pictures through the whole install. It will be the biggest thing I have done on my car to date. I just tried to paint some interior parts today.

Needless to say my dad insists that I shouldn't make it look better then it already does because it might attract vandals...

Re: neon's/led fitting questions.

odd question did you have to jack the car up? (I assume so as it's really really small under there! and if so did you use jack stands? I have two would that be enough or would it be better to have the entire car on jack stands?

Re: neon's/led fitting questions.

2 jacks is fine you will just have to move them from side to side and front to back.

Re: neon's/led fitting questions.

Side LEDs. Use a little wire to connect the LED tube to the mount, just incase it breaks. The tube wont drag then. Experience

This one is kinda hard to see. Its the back. On the left is the muffler. Im laying on the ground. The tube is up in the body

Re: neon's/led fitting questions.

When i installed mine the hardest one was the back. I had a wireless remote hooked up in the trunk. I ran all the wires up through the tiny hole under the spare time and hooked them up to the amp kit wires.

Re: Re: neon's/led fitting questions.

I now really appreciate the time it takes for someone to install one of these kits. I got under my car today and mounted the side mounts for one of the sides (read about 2 hours of work). I almost took off the back bumper but I think I can get to it without doing that.... I got

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-X9Jd0Lo...00&I=505UL200B

That kit... It's very nice but one problem is the bars are flat. I have to put on on to see how this is going to work for me. Where I drilled the mounts are exactly where you have yours. But with my led's they will actually be facing the underbody of the car and not at the ground. So I have to mount them so they are the other way. I'm not sure how to accomplish this yet... I may have to redrill those four mounts. Thats why I wanted to get just one side on to see how it looks.

I already mounted the switch in the interior and got power from the cigareete lighter. I used a splice connect for a 1in 2 out connector my dad had around (he's an electrician). It worked out rather nice.. I'll post pictures of the work of installing them tommorow along with a how-to and some after the fact pictures when they are done.

Re: neon's/led fitting questions.

oh on the spyder the back light is a bit harder to mount because of trunk layout it seems. It's actually looking best to go on this lip thats between the bottom of the rear cover lip and on the bottom of the license plate holder. The rear tirewell is obstructing the middle of the light however so I'm not sure how well that will work out yet.

Re: Re: neon's/led fitting questions.

6 hours later they are on and work. I will post a tutorial with pictures later.

Basically if it wasn't for my dad being really handy I would have been screwed. The mounting hardware they gave you was no good. We had to custom make 8 brackets for the side lights that were essentially 90" bends of aluminum. And odd bends (between 30-45degree's) for the back 4 brackets.

Wiring was fun and involved taking apart the back of the spyder. Which btw I finally found where the rest of the trunk went. It's behind the back wall. There is so much room there thats not used even when the top is down..

I got it all together and it didn't turn on. Here the fuse holder that came with the kit sucked and didn't make connection.

The varad led lightbars are super nice. Very very bright. No dots of light just solid glow as they promised. Definately worth the money. I'm not sure about the time though. It took really long and that was after we had the car jacked up looking for places to mount things and starting one sides holes yesterday for 3 hours.

Had the kit come with decent brackets it wouldn't have taken as long... Also had I not been a perfectionist mounting would have gone alot faster too..
