Quick Question Concerning Auto Track

Allright, I own a 2000 lincoln ls V8. Purchased the car a month ago,
So far its been a nightmare.
Between replacing plugs and the damn 65 dollars an hour labor charges

1, misfires were happening and check engine light was coming on...cyl 3 was misfiring ...changed spark plug and it was fine for 2 days...then cyl 2,3,4 was misfiring ...now replaced all 8 plugs. Ran fine for another week or so....then check engine light picked up more misfires...took it to a new guy [friend of family] and told me my gasket is leeking...ended up having a leak. Car is in shop they are replacing the valve cover gaskets and soaked plugs. Hopefully that fixes my problem.
{friend of the family charging me 200 dollars parts and labor...sound good?] [i figure 40 a gasket and like 30 on plugs [plat bosch 2's]
90 in labor bad for that kind of work?

Car Shutters are like 40 miles per hour Alot [will the new gasket and plugs fix this?]

2. Auto track issue
The autotrack system seems to be failing.
When i turn on the car the computer reads "check autotrack"
when you touch the bottons they dont do anything. The yellow lights comes on when u touch it and then turns off when u press it again. Also in the dash the Slip feature stays lit up while i drive.. I know the system isnt currently on because i slide all over in the rain without any automatic breaks coming on. I cannot afford to bring this thing to a dealership. im just trying to troubleshoot whats going on myself. i dont care if the system is off forrever i just want to know if this is going to start more problems?

the diagnostics my friend owns doesnt pick up anything hen he runs the scan. Hmmm?

Please help

Re: Quick Question Concerning Auto Track

Your #1 problem listed is probably the most common problem found on the LS8s. I had to replace the #3 coil in both my LSs. Replacing the gaskets is a must, but you may find that you have one or more coils that you will have to replace. $90 labor is not bad. It is a time consuming job. Just make sure they replace the o-ring seals too.

Re: Quick Question Concerning Auto Track

Oil leak, Coils, Coils, Coils...

The advance track track system is very complicated and uses data from the ABS system (as well as others) to determine what's going on and how to correct. You'll never diagnose it by yourself. Take it in.

Thumbs up advance track

Number one, never use bosh plugs on anything ford, they simply will not last and end up costing additional money to replace. Use motorcraft triple platnums. Trust me I work in a dealership. Everyone I know has had to replace the valve cover gaskets including me.

Number two, your advance track may be turning on because of a little known sensor under your brake booster and is very hard to see, they usually set a code though. If you are not getting one you're probably scanning the pcm instead of the abs. Fords fix is to replace the brake booster as an assembly. That may not be the problem but that's all I've seen go wrong with those things.
