ATF+4 Regular or Synthetic
Is ATF+4 Synthetic or Regular, I have heard mixed things, and I would like to know what to tell my mechanic what fluid to use when he does a tranny pan drop.

Mopar ATF+3 or 4 is all you should put it your transmission. It isn't synthetic, but that isn't your concern.

Re: ATF+4 Regular or Synthetic
hahaha...im sorry, are you talking to me. i do more work on high performance chrysler vehicles than you have probably ever seen. i, myself, have a mid 12 second srt (on street tires mind you), and have wrenched on many more. are you aware that dodge fluids are MOBIL1 fluids. mobil 1 fluids are synthetic, it may be cheap synthetic with a conventional oil base stock, but its synthetic none-the-less. so...as you can see, you want to run a synthetic, and if your going to run synthetic, you might want to run a good quality one. i recommend AMSOIL ATF+. its the best fluid your going to put your hands on. it is all i run in all trannies that use ATF (including mine, and several 300+ and even 400+ hp srts, every neon/pt cruiser, and viper i see in my shop. not to mention all of the trucks too).
live and learn my friend, and do your homework. |

Yes, I was talking to you. That's great that you do alot of work on Chryslers, but alot of people don't. You tell someone to put in a synthetic fluid and they go out and buy a semi-synthetic fluid or something similiar, that doesn't have the same friction modifiers that MOPAR ATF does. That is all I was saying. On a side note, I would be more impressed in you had a mid 12 sec SOHC neon
, which I have seen and worked on.

Re: ATF+4 Regular or Synthetic

Re: Re: ATF+4 Regular or Synthetic
it is good your advice and I like the idea of using syntetic, yet I think if you know so much about mopars, your SRT should be on the low 11's. They make 13 stock, so you need more improvement.

Re: ATF+4 Regular or Synthetic
You also have to be careful switching to synthetic. If you leak oil or fluid with conventional oils, then your leak may increase.

Re: ATF+4 Regular or Synthetic
most definatly! you also need to be sure that the synthetic is compatiable with conventional fluids. some are, most arnt. if its not, you will need to get the tranny power flushed in order to properly run it!
