'95 Jimmy Tranny slipping....

Started out of the blue. I need to apply a lot of gas to getting it moving in first gear. After it shifts to second things are just fine.

I checked the fluid and it is topped off. I am going to try a flush / fill.

Tranny is throwing code PO756 - Transmission shift solenoid.

Sounds unrelated. The fluid doesn't smell burned. Thanks for any help!

She has 75k on it.

I searched

P0756 is a 2-3 shift solenoid. Almost sounds like starting off in second gear. There is a fuse # 23 is for trans , make sure it is good.

Cool, I will check the fuse block for that fuse.

It is at the shop getting a fluid/filter change and he said he would ohm out that solinoid.

I can't believe I took it to a shop...but I am building the engine for my RX-7 today...i got enough car projects.

You know that is really funny you say that.

Because I floored it from a standing stop. And it went all the way through 50 some MPH and we could not sense that it shifted at all.

I think you might be onto something.

The filter change fluid change did nothing except they way over serviced the truck and broke two exhaust bolts. Yey.

I did check the 10 amp fuse and it is ok.

Thanks! I will see where I can go with this.

Re: '95 Jimmy Tranny slipping....

Ok , it is also sometimes doing this.

When gently stopping for a stop sign...prob about 3 mph right before you stop....it clunks as you stop...

Might that be it dropping into first gear?

Re: '95 Jimmy Tranny slipping....

mine will clunk if ur 3-25 and hit the gas. talked to a guy who builds trannys and said that its normal. if you take it to a good shop they should be able to tell you if its shifting gears. another thing for you to try is to put the shifter in 2nd and see if it accerates the same. like from a stop. this locks the tranny in second. this will help you know what gear its in. as your driving it in the second gear place you can shift it to the 1st place and your engine should rev high. if you are going to do it be around 25mph. 1st gear tops out at 35. second is 70mph.

I tried this today and when I moved it from 2nd to 1st at 25mph it did not go into first gear.

It started to work today but it was not for long.

I will need to get under it and check the wiring for any breaks. Seems like the shift solinoids are rather cheap. I could try replacing it.

Any harm in starting off in second gear?

Re: '95 Jimmy Tranny slipping....

i think it will be ok for now. does it work sometimes when its warm or cold? do all the other gears shift right? check the linkage and if all of that checks out take it to a shop or you can try changing the solinoid and see if that solves it. also be for that try disconecting the batt for 15 minutes or so. it sometimes works.

Re: '95 Jimmy Tranny slipping....

Seems like it's not shifting cause it's not!!! It's in limp mode 3rd gear ONLY, cause of the bad solenoid, or wiring short to the solenoid, or a host of related shorts - even the ignition switch!!!

Well, here is the update....

It now starts of in 1st gear....about 80 percent of the time.

However, it will not make the shift from 2-3. It just stays in 2nd. I ran it up to about 5300 rpm (5500rpm redline) and it still did not shift.

I guess the solinoid is done.

Seems to be about the only option left on what it could be...

Or the ignition switch...

Not sure what would be easiser to replace

Re: '95 Jimmy Tranny slipping....

Don't dump the cash yet, wank's...

Pull the plug on the battery, allow the DTC codes to reset, plug it back in, and then do a test drive. If the tranny does the shift cycle okay, your ign. switch gets the rap!

But if ya got extra green, here's my bank acct. #... xxxxxxxxxxxx
