Hyde's Final Results for the Winter Work for 2005
Well Hyde's winter engine work has come to an end.
Let me first say, that things just happen in life and sometimes they are beyond our control. They are usually unexpected and often emotional. The last 3 weeks have been incredibly hard for me. I have a lot going on in my life and I was not expecting Hyde to need my attention. With all of the problems we have had in the last 3 weeks, real and not so real, it truly seemed like the end of Hyde's engine. In the past, I have had board members come to my rescue at the local level and even the regional level. This week I saw this board moved on a national level. I am so unbelievable touched by how much everyone came to offer help and support. I want to publicly thank: Bryan "NoShoes Moore for his determiniation, focus and persistance. Even more difficult than dealing with Hyde in the last 3 weeks, Bryan had to deal with me. I assure you I am much more challenging than Hyde was and Hyde was impossbile. I would have walked out on me many times and I know Bryan was tempted, but he stuck to it. Bryan is part machine, part human and he is 100% passion when it comes to the MR2. I would also like to thank RickyB (didn't get the wire today, but I really aprpeciate the effort). I would also like to thank ChrisK, Scott Barton, Fabio Vlacci, Dennis Rothmel Senior and absolutely everyone else NoShoes has been on the phone with the last few weeks exchanging ideas. I would also like to thank April for being so patient with NoShoes being gone. Once again, Hyde proves to be a community car. I'm sorry if I missed anyone by name, you all know who you are. Without further ado ... Over the past 3 months all of this was added to Hyde: Hydra Nemesis EMS with wideband O2 and launch control ![]() ATS Adjustable Cam gears ![]() HKS 272 intake cam & HKS 264 Exhaust cam Wolfkatz Fuel Rail ![]() GT35r BB turbo: ![]() Blitz 850 CC injectors New Spec Stage 3 pressure plate and Stage 5 Disc (Thanks Mister3!) Resurfaced OEM flywheel Kirkasaurus front and back motor mount inserts And of course, NoShoes tuning. We finished dyno tuning an hour ago and although the results are wonderful, Hyde's tendency to overheat seems to be increasing in frequency. For those of you that do not know, I have been having intermittent overheating issues with Hyde since Novemebr of 2003 when I ran my first 11 sec pass. I actually did that run while overheating with the low oil light on ![]() All I am going to say, is keep your ignition compenents fresh. This is the FIRST winter that I did not buy new Toyota wires ... didn't bother since I had less than 5000 miles on last years set. 5000 hard miles of a failing MSD ignition box firing at them .... lesson learned. Hyde is now on a 100% stock ignition. The Blitz DSBC has 4 options to dial in boost. We set them up and tuned them at: 12 psi (291 rwhp), 15 psi (323 rwhp), 17 psi (354 rwhp) and 20 psi (377 rwhp). Dyno Graph: 20 psi from the summer VERSUS 20 psi today. ![]() Since I am definitely pushing the envelope on my engine, I accepted reality and bought a tow vehicle and trailer. I do not have a pic of the trailer, but I bought it from PDoane on the board if you ever saw his. http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/sub2.jpg I also got crew shirts since I have a few regional MR2ers that are going to help me out at the track. The shirts came from board member, Rickman, http://www.spazchicken.com Thank you MR2 Community

You do not need to drop the motor to do cams or a timing belt.

The factory manuals are online here:
http://www.mr2-tech.com/bgb.htm I can't answer your question as I did not do my own install. My crew chief installed them

Re: Hyde's Final Results for the Winter Work for 2005
nice work Jeff.... REALLY glad to see Hyde up and running again!
kinda surprised the power's pretty close down low even with the bigger turbo! ok so on the air fuel graph down the bottom, whats the blue line round 18:1 maxed out?

Re: Hyde's Final Results for the Winter Work for 2005
TRD2000, I believe the extra blue line is just a glitch in the Matrix. Have you experienced dejaveu? (sp)
As for power down low, NoShoes (my tuner) adjusted the 272/264 cam gears in order to assist low end response. We gave up a bit up top, but with the hill climbs, I need to keep the low end spool. I never go below 4300 rpms when racing and you may note that is exactly where the graphs cross I assure you that was not happenstance luck ~ it was planned that way. Thanks Dan, I just bought a new set of V700s. I have to use a DOT approved tire for the hills.

Re: Hyde's Final Results for the Winter Work for 2005
I race the hill climbs in Pennsylvania and the drag races in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
My best 1/4 mile is 11.7 ~ that was last year. I only have 2 runs in on the new set up and they have not gone well (12.2 was the best).
