When I stop at a light or a stop sign the car wants to take off by itself. what is this? could it be the throttle position sensor. oh yeah the motor is a 3.1L

It's haunted. Want's to take off as in? The brake lets up or do you mean the engine revs higher? The computer will rev the engine higher if it thinks the engine is going to stall. I doubt the TPS is at fault but it's probable.

It could be the TPS, or more likely, the MAF. A messed up MAF will sometimes increase RPM's dramatically. If you have a working MAF, and want to experience this, unplug your MAF and drive around a little bit. It's actually hard to control the vehicle sometimes.

Being a '94, one other possible is sticking linkage/cable at the throttle body. Spray down the linkages and the cable ends to ensure free movement. Check from inside the ride that your gas pedal moves freely and doesn't bind.
