I NEED HELP.......... I've got an 88 Wagoneer Limited 4.0L, 4x4 with 230K+ mileage. Recently my oil started backing up into the air filter box. I assumed a PCV valve would cure the issue. I've been told that one done NOT exist. What keep that oil from doing htis. The elbow from the valve cover has NOTHING in it. PLEASE HElP! I don't want to get rid of it, but I can't keep have oil run down the front of my truck.
THANKS .............. Steve |

Re: 88 Wagoneer Limited PCV Valve
Hi Steve. I have the twin to yours. Have had the problem for 6 years. Tried installing a makeshift collector for the oil, but it doesn't work too well. I hope someone out there has a good idea for this mess. By the way, what color is your Wagoneer. Mine is cream w/woodgrain. Sweet buggy, but right now, I've got an "electical gremlin" that's driving me crazy. Gotta go, so good luck.

Re: 88 Wagoneer Limited PCV Valve
A couple of things can cause this.First if there is a lot of sludge in the engine the oil drain holes in the head get clogged up and the oil can't drain fast enough so it gets sucked by the pcv.Its not a pcv valve but it is a fixed orifice. The thin black plastic tube that goes into the rubber grommet in the back of the valve cover is your pcv.If that is clogged up you get oil in the air filter.Make sure it is clean and also check the fitting in the intake manifold.the easiest thing is to just pull that hose out of the valve cover with the engine running and make sure that you have strong vacuum at the end.Another thing that can cause it is if you push that hose too far into the grommet. If you don't have the one with the white plastic ring around it,you should get it or else the old one barely sticks into the grommet. It should seem like it is not in all the way.It should have like a sort of bulge around it,that is supposed to stop on top of the grommet, not in it.Hope this helps.

Re: 88 Wagoneer Limited PCV Valve
I had the same problem with my 89 ltd. You can try to clean the ccv hose at the back of the valve cover but you will never get it clear enough. Try this thread, let me know if you have any more problems with it.
