96 sable cooling fan staying on

OK , I joined this group in hopes of some help. Mt girlfriend has a 96 sable. Just recently the cooling fan will not shut off all the time after the car is shut off. Also sometimes it just starts up when the car is just sitting, not running. Drains the battery. What controls the fan on these cars, or is it just possesssed??? Thanks in advance

Re: 96 sable cooling fan staying on

There is a temp sensor that controls the fan. Engine temp will rise a little after the car is shut-off causing the fan to come on or stay on a little while.

Re: 96 sable cooling fan staying on

Mine is in the radiator (different make and model). Follow the wires from the fan after disconnecting the battery.
