advice for a stealth buyer

Im looking at getting a 94 steath twin in May sometime, but im wondering before i spend alot, if the car has 100k miles + do/will the turbos be shot? or working at like 15% of capability? If so can "rebuild" turbo chargers or do i have to buy new ones, and how much are new turbos? Also, i read the faq and about superchargers, would it be plausable (money wise) for me to purchase a non turbo stealth and supercharge it?
Thanks in advance

Re: advice for a stealth buyer

You can rebuild turbos. Mileage doesnt always determine wear on turbos, its how they were used and cared for. People could blow turbos at 55k or make them last till 150k. Supercharger kits will run you about 3k-5k for a DOHC NA. Then the problem is you are limited in power and stuck with FWD. I would go with the TT before a supercharged FWD.

Re: advice for a stealth buyer

i bought my car at 112,000 miles on it and the turbo's are still fine.
its impossible to just know if its gonna be ok, it depends on if the previous owner took good care of it or not.
you can just buy used rebuilt turbo's for around $400 dollars instead of buying new ones.

its up to you if you wanna buy an n/a and then supercharge it, but id wrather just get the twin if i were you

cool, thanks for the input. I was told that turbos couldnt be rebuilt, that they had to be all together replaced, so thats good news if i can just buy rebuilt ones for 400 or so.

btw are there any major advantages or disadvantages between the 91-93 and the 94-96 style? besides the looks and the 20 hp or whatever. But like problem wise...

Re: advice for a stealth buyer

The differences in teh engine are in teh FAQ... If memory serves me I think most if not all of hte changes occured in 92.5
The engine's internals are stronger and the transfer case in the drivetrain tends to leak less in the newer models. Also I think the pre 92.5 engines tend to spin more bearings...but that I may be wrong about. Oh and the stronger output shafts in 92.5 cars

Generally though, most of the differences don't make too much of a difference unless you plan to mod the car...and even then, there are plenty of high hp 1st gen stealths and vr4s. So yes there are improvements..are they all mandatory improvements...no not really.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
