house or car

Recently i've found myself to be quite fortunate. My mom has offered to buy me a house. For about the same price you could buy a Lamborghini, but of course a house would put me in a much better position for the future. (you can't sleep in a lambo). Have any of you guys ever thought about this. What would you choose... a house or your dream car? Just day dreaming a bit... but the roar of V12 is mighty appealing.

A Porsche, 2 Geo's and a Lambo.... yeah that sounds right.

Re: house or car

Just take the money instead. Then get yourself a descent car that you can fix up yourself, bank the money your mother gave you, and move into a small appartment and live off the interest. Simple as pie. But of course, I have never done that. I prefer to live in the basement of my parents house. But if I could, that would be my choice of plan . Now I'm going watch my parents tv and eat their food...

Re: house or car

Personally i'd take the house. Chances of her buying you a lambo are slim, chances of her buying the house you know are excellent. With the money you would save by having a house paid for, all of your money could go toward a nice car that you want. In the long run it works out well, and you have the comfort and safety of owning your own house. But thats my mature side talking, the devil that hangs out near my clutch foot says grab the fastest car you can.

Just buy a smaller house and a less expensive sportscar like a new Corvette or something. Or, buy a smaller house and invest that money and buy the Lambo later. But the smartest option would be to get yourself some reliable transportation and use the rest as a college fund.

Re: house or car

Don't forget the insurance on the Lamborghini. If you're really 18 like your profile says, you are going to have an extremely hard time even getting insurance for it. Go with the house, and maybe spend some money on your Porshe, like upgrade your turbos.

Re: house or car

House = increase in value

Lambo = decrease in value (usually)

Better decision is to take the house.

Although I like the idea of getting a smaller house, a nest egg, and a cheaper car.

Re: house or car

Yeah, i've already decided on the house, but I was just day dreaming. It doesn't make financial sense to me to buy a lamborghini.

Re: house or car

I think I could live there for free too. Just get a roomate and have them pay utilities. Instant equity also.

My gramma is basically buying me a house...

But anywho I would go with a house over any almost any car. The house is just too valueable on more levels, or atleast for me it is.

House is a wiser investment for sure.
