Is it possible to replace a tranny from a 1989 Lesabre with a 1992 Lesabre?
I was wondering this because the tranny in the 1989 is blown and I have a perfectly good tranny in the 1992 that I was really hoping I could slap into the 1989 without too many problems...
Will it work? Is there a chance at all? |

if not, is there any other tranny (more reliable) from another car I could look for to put in the 1989 LeSabre.
the 1989 LeSabre tranny has a known habit of failing all the time and I sure don't wanna go through thousands of $$$ worth of trannies on the car. |

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong... but if I remember correctly, the '89 models used the 4T40 model transmission. The '92s used the 4T60E, which is an electronically controlled transmission. It will not swap unless you wanted to do some MAJOR work to get it done. And for the price you'd pay to have that swap done, you could have someone do an excellent rebuild job on the 4T40 that you have in your '89. Many of the problems that those earlier transmissions had have been fixed with re-designed parts that are now standard with most new rebuild kits.

the 89's used the 440-T4 which is is a 4T60 but if the 92 model used the 4T60E which is electronically controlled then you will have problems
