ice circles??

I was watching a TV show about crop circles, and they start talking about a different "phenomenom" called ice circles. This is where a perfectly round circle will appear on a lake, and has a large etched in trench outlining it. The trench can usually be like 3" wide.

anyways I've never heard of it, and thought they looked kinda neat.

they say this one happened out of the blue one winter night. (Dec. 2nd.)

the story for this one is here

i thought at first a spring underneath would have caused the ice to form like that, but it is a creek, you can see where open water flows across the far side of the circle... ice usually shatters when it breaks apart.

Re: ice circles??

It's probably the same shit as crop circles - poeple with nothing better to do going out at night and etching a circle into the ice. It certainly doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure how to do it.

bet there is a small hole in the very center where they anchored the string to make it a perfect circle, Not that hard to have something holding a person from the tree that the old lady is leaning against,

They probably have way to much free time, and get way to little attention, or maybe they wanted there 15 minutes of fame before they passed on,

If I lived somewhere where it froze every now and then I might try this one... Texas and its nice weather... Its ok I dont like the cold that much anyway,

the problem is the ice is no more than an inch thick, you can see open water flowing across the far side of the circle.... if a person walked out there to carve it, they must have weighed like 30 pounds.
