Huge Tranny Problem Help!!!

well yesterday on my way to school my tranny started slippin badddd. i jus put in a new engine about 2 weeks ago with some mods on it with jus straight headers for the moment. i havnt ran the truck hard at all except the day i got it running. the fluid has been fine always full even when it was slipping it was full. its fine through 1st and 2nd then i get into third and im running at almost 3grand to keep it goin. i changed the filter and added a quart of lucas. that night at work the piece of shit cork gasket broke and fluid leaked everywhere so i had it towed home. i plan on getting a new gasket and more fluid and fixing it all to see if it works. butim really not wanting to spend the money on all that and waste all new fluid and lucas aint cheap for a quart. my dad found another 700r4 tranny at his friends junkyard for 200 bucks, id love to get it but i dont have 200 bucks right now, proms coming up in 2 weeks so i need all the money i can get. any one maybe know wut the problem is?

It sounds like your 3-4 clutch packs are worn out. This is common on the 700R4 and if that is what it is then the trans has to be rebuilt. I don't believe new fluid and filter is going to help you. What year is your truck ?? It is also possible you did not get the detent cable for the kickdown set right.

youre definately gonna need the kickdown because if the tranny doesnt kick down then its gonna go out on ya, especially the overdrive 4 speed that you have.

do you have a kickdown linkage or what?

i thought it would be electric because my 73 chevy has an electric one. it has a push button switch similiar to the door jamb light switches and when you give it full throttle the pedal pushes the switch in and completes the circut down to the tranny and it makes it downshift. mine was disconnected tho and the wire was all beat up so it didnt work so i had to downshift with the gear selector on the floor (dont know why, but the dude that had the truck before decided to put a floor lever in instead of the column... kinda cool i guess...)

See http://www.tciauto.com/instructions/...ble_adjust.htm

You can burn up the 3/4 clutches if the TV cable is not adjusted properly.
