what is GM producing...
I have always been a loyal GM customer purchasing many vehicles over the past twenty years or so. Grand nationals, z28's, baja s-10, GTP's and the list goes on. I now own a 2000 denali which I have had nothing but problems with since hitting around 50,000 miles. I,m the kind of guy that babies any car he owns. Wash the vehicle a min. of three times a week, do not drive the vehicle hard but rather take pride in the vehicles prestige condition. My denali without question shows just as good as any new vehicle on the lot. The exterior gold metallic paint is mint probably partially due to parking the truck at the end of the lot and taking two parking spaces. my honey will attest to this!
Front rotor warping problems on many occassions until brembo cross drilled rotors were installed, bad hydrallic lifter, rear A/C connector line leak, antifreeze leak somewhere, fog light capsule leaks (blowing bulbs), drivers side heated seat and the killer, ABS speed sensor problem that GM recognizes on their trucks but "unfortuneately my V.I.N. is not included at this time" even though my truck has the EXACT symptoms as the trucks included in the recall and documented by GM dealer. I Just do not get it? The most expensive vehicle I have ever owned (New $60,000 + Canadian$) and its a Lemon. Gm keep up the crappy work both in product and customer service namely the 1-800 # for GM customer Assistance in Oshawa. Signed, Mr. Last purchase of GM for a lifetime p.s. Sorry to hear you having troubles. You have a 1st model of a redesign. I had a 2000 also, and tons of warranty claims. It would have qualified under law to be replaced, but I stuck it out.
I am glad I did. I had it for 125,000 miles, and the only non warranty thing I had to replace was the power steering pump. Now I have a 2005, and 5 months trouble free exept for the nav system had to be replaced. If you check consumer reports, you will see from 2000-2005 the repairs have come way down for the average owner. From a very happy owner, I would recomend giving it another chance, they are sweet rides. |

Kept my '02 Tahoe only 3 months before selling it. Two fuel pumps and a front hub/bearing in three months was a little much.
Too bad, as I had wanted that LT for years and finally bought an imacualate low mileage used one. No wonder the previous owner offed it. |

I was blown away when I first logged on to the Yukon forum. There are so many problems. My experience with 3 GMCs makes me feel very lucky. My Dads 69' GMC pick-up with a 292-6/4 speed ran forever. The only drawback was the lack of a factory locking rear end. My first love was the truck I ordered as an apprentice carpenter fresh out high school. The dealer I purchased it from made his profit on the base price of the truck, and all of the factory and or dealer options were at dealers cost. He opened his little GMC options book and went thru it with me, line by line, asking what I wanted on it. I ordered it November 1974 and took delivery March 1975. A 1975 GMC K15 Sierra Classic, short bed, wide side, 350, 4x4,locking hubs, 4-speed w/granny, 373 locking rear end, heavy duty everything, skid plates etc. No power windows though. This truck was for wheelin, hunting, skiing,& beer keg haulin. I out pulled and pushed all of my buddies Dodge Power Wagons and Ford 4x4s. The only break down was on a Friday after work about 3:30. At 85,000 mi. my timing chain went south. As luck would have it, it happened in my front yard. I jumped in my moms Datsun 510 wagon and went to the Speed Merchant, got a new timming chain, and what the heck, picked up a new carb, intake, cam, headers, and a couple Covair turbo mufflers, and had it ready to turn over by 2:00am. I still own it, and drive it. Way over 500,000 on it now. No odometer so this is a conservative estimate. In 99' I put a Goodwrench stock replacement crate motor in it (mistake)! I should of powered up just a little. I bought a new 2003 Yukon in 2002, and the only fault so far was a faint knocking noise that I could also feel in the steering wheel at slow speeds (5-15 mph) with slight turning input into the steering wheel. When I called my service rep he spit out exactly what the symptoms were and what it was. It was the permanently lubricated mid steering shaft. They're replacing them with ones that can be greased, but they won't bring up the fact about the problem if you don't is the drift I got. I guess I got 2 Wednesday or Thursday trucks, or however the story goes. You can pick up a 75' K15 cheap. Easy to work on. Parts are relatively cheap. The 4 speeds with locking hubs are bullet proof. I'm getting about 13 mpg. in my beast. Now here we are, 30 years down the road, were sending ROV probes to Mars and my 2003 ( computerized can't work on it without nerdsense ) Yukon is only getting 2 mpg better fuel economy than my 75' with mega miles on the drive train, body cancered, big hole in the seat, no knobs on the window cranks, cracked windshield, tie-wired tail pipe, sprouts growing on the door sill truck. BUT I CAN PARK IT ANYWHERE! I guess I'm GMC lucky.

Yes, another GM exclusive...the steering shaft. That issue pretty much applies to all models, cars or trucks. My wife's Bonneville was at the dealer every 20000 miles to have the loose shaft repacked. The Intrigues seemed to get really loose. True, you can repack the shaft splines with a special grease injecting tool that looks like a bull insemenator, but it is far from permanent and involves removing the intermediate shaft from the vehicle. Feels like a new car after greasing, but over the months starts to feel like a '73 Vega again, with a loose feeling steering column. Our Tahoe and HD did it too. Seems like they would correct the issue that has gone on that many years. I like my HD alot, I really do. I also had a really hard time seeing that Tahoe go down the road, in spite of how it performed. Sooner or later though if GM keeps showing us this kind of appreciation for being loyal customers... |

Wow, I know there is bad in all makes but hell I never knew such issues could happen to one vehicle. The reason I keep buying GM is for the reliability I have received from them. I got with them starting with a 92 pick-up. The 92 went in once for a lock on the center console that broke and an ideler arm on the front end. Sold it at 93,000 miles. Other than tires and breaks and batteries? -Nada. Loved it. Bought a new (all my vehicles have been ordered) 98 tahoe. Went in for a coolant leak at the intake manifold at about 10,000 as I recall. Sold it last May with 88,000 no problems other than breaks, batteries, tires, etc. (The MAS air sensor was on its way out I must add, however, the guy who bought it replaced it with a Granitelli one for $350). Took delievery of my new 04' Yukon almost a year ago to the day....filled it today with 15,000 some-odd miles. 100% satisfaction. Wife has a 2000 Sierra pick-up. Again, bought brand new with 22 miles on it -66,000 on it now and the one thing it went in for was that recall for the tailgate hangers and a burnt out power window motor. The motor went out after the 36,000, and my dealer replaced BOTH motors FOR NOTHING! -So I'm obviously happy. I love the resale of the GM's too. Toyota or Nissan? No thanks. I like owning a V-8 that gets 18 MPG in town thanks.

i have a 2000 yukon slt w/ the 5.3 and have had no problems with 70,000 miles on it. other than tires and a battery its been very reliable and very fun to drive. my buddy has a 1996 chevy tahoe 2 door sport w/ the vortec 350 and it has over 150,000 miles on it and all he had to replace was the alternator, the battery, a few sets of tires, and a power window motor..im shocked the truck still pulls as hard as it does and it tows 2 snowmobiles and a trailer with ease. His wife even ran the truck low on oil which caused a perment knocking in the engine due to a damaged rod, and and a bit of black smoke under full throttle, but it still runs great.

i have a 2000 yukon slt w/ the 5.3 and have had no problems with 70,000 miles on it. other than tires and a battery its been very reliable and very fun to drive. my buddy has a 1996 chevy tahoe 2 door sport w/ the vortec 350 and it has over 150,000 miles on it and all he had to replace was the alternator, the battery, a few sets of tires, and a power window motor..im shocked the truck still pulls as hard as it does and it tows 2 snowmobiles and a trailer with ease. His wife even ran the truck low on oil which caused a perment knocking in the engine due to a damaged rod, and and a bit of black smoke under full throttle, but it still runs great. id say thats pretty darn reliable IMO.

GM has been losing customers steadily in the last 10 years. They sell overpriced vehicles with low quality parts and poor customer service. I hear and experience negatives about these cars and trucks all the time.You would think a 60,000 vehicle would be reliable and trouble free for some time and "IF" something happened , you get prompt,
free of charge, service, well........... There are lemons in every make and model but domestics take the cake. Someone mentioned "resale value"??? When I hear that word I think of Honda or Toyota etc. I bought an acura for $20,000 years ago and sold it 7 years later with 125,000 kms for $10,000. That's resale value! These cars and trucks are not without their problems but you get what you pay for the most part. It's good to see the foreign market invade us with good, long lasting , quality vehicles so we can have something descant to drive! |

I am with you. Dont misunderstand, I love the prestige that is associated witht the Denali and more importantly all of the creature comforts that it has. I have had a laundry list of things before and after warranty. The vehicle is a 2000 Denali and it is the early '00 so it is the old body style. Before warranty: 2 door gaskets+carpet Entire exhaust system due to unidentified noise 3x axle noise (tech says its normal,..Isay i spent 50k+...no noise is acceptable). Drivers side heated seat steering wheel eroding center. radio interference noise After warranty 1.posi rear end +ring and pinion -$1500 2.fuel pump (no guage for long time before pump pooped out) $1,000 3.Drivers side heated seat AGAIN!!! not fixed 4.axle noise AGAIN!!!! not fixed 5.steering wheel erosion AGAIN!!!!! not fixed 6.intake gasket (very common on Vortec motor)will be $500 7.Brakes are absolutely deplorable fronts lock up very easy. so embarrased will not let anyone else drive it!!! 8.turn signal/ side marker condensation inside light 9.Fog lights condensation inside lights 10.door lock does not open when sun hits drivers side must use key |

May soon be a Ford Excursion Man.. My family has always been a Ford family and have not had this many probs. I got rid of a '94 explorer with over 175k miles on it and the only major thing done was caused by a bad wheel bearing and that only cost me $450 in parts. DENALI FOR SALE.......................CHEAP.............in more ways than one!!!!
