Camshaft sensor trouble code

I resealed my camshafts on a 2000 passat, 30valve v6, ATQ code motor. It runs fine however I get a check engine light that flashes. My OBD II reader shows a code that says the bank 2 cam sensor is out of tolerance. I know the cams are sequenced correctly. 16 rollers between the slots on the cams and I checked it with the other side to make sure it looked the same. The dealer says the cam tensioner is not working and not advancing, retarding the cams as it should. Does anyone have experience with this? Is that the code message you should get with a bad cam tensioner? Also does anyone know a place that parts out motor parts. Looking for a used part if I have to bite it and buy a replacement. New ones are around $500. Thanks for any info. Garyalp

www.brimsimports.com
or try www.brims-imports.com

The part is relatively cheap compared to that of which you've quoted.
