Re: umm...Help.

definitely the 350... it wouldn't make sense to go with anything else.

I think those came factory with the TH350 (3-speed) tranny... but I'm not 100% sure. I would put a 700R4 (4-speed auto with overdrive) in it anyway because you'll get better gas mileage if its a daily driver or you plan on driving on the highway. The 700r4 will require some slight modification in order to get it to mount correctly, I believe. I'm not an expert on 1st gens.

What are you going to do with the car?? are you going to put monsterous power into it or will it be mediocre? this will be an important determining factor.

Re: umm...Help.

first things first, the 350 is a small block, the 396, 427, and 454 were big blocks.

I would reccomend sticking with what the car originally had to keep things simple. If it had a small block put another one in, if it had a big block, put another one in, and then choose the tranny to match the engine.

instantkevin makes a good point in that you need to have a plan here, what are you lookin to use the car for, how much power are you lookin to make, is it a daily driver, dragster or G machine?

Yeah, they did, btw if I had the 1st gen, i'd stick a big block, somewhere around the lines of a 396. Also get the 4spd tranny because the 1st gens did come with a 3 speed, well atleast my friend's 70 Chevelle did.

ok i got myself in order now. sry about the mixup with the 350 and saying it was a bigblock my mistake. I want it to be able to drive me to work everyonce in awhile and to be able to smoke a few people at our makeshift drag lanes. I talk to the people i bought it from and they said it has been set up for a bigblock. They said they were going to drop a hienz 57 motor off in it but couldnt do to money problems.
