AWD with the AWD taken off?!
some gimme a heads up here... about to buy a 92 laser AWD turbo that needs some motor work (a lot) that doesn't scare me, what does scare me is that it is supposta be AWD but it is not... i mean, it says AWD. and it even has the setup in the back but it is missing the axles diff and shafts and stuff?! what in the fuck? why would someone take that stuff off? i read that those systmes brake a lot, so did someone take it off because it locked up on them? it has a plate bolted on on the tranny were the AWD would connect... so dust is not getting in anywere. just wandering what was up? i am gonna buy it anyway, i was just wandering if anyone has a real answer for me here.

Re: AWD with the AWD taken off?!
The owner probably did it because he/she needed it for another eclipse.

Re: AWD with the AWD taken off?!
if you're paying more than $100 for it, i wouldn't buy the car. unless you can find the parts that were taken off, but i still wouldn't buy the car unless you have major plans for it that will actually be carried out.

Re: AWD with the AWD taken off?!
disconnecting those parts is REALLY bad for the differential.

Re: AWD with the AWD taken off?!
no, i found out what happened. someone before him had fkd up the tranny, couldn't find an AWD one for decent price but could find a FF one. so the tranny is for FF and the just removed the AWD stuff. so it is more or less a GS-T.
no big deal. i have a remanufac head from a freind that was 'extra' (read: replaced with a ported/polished) for $50 lol. and plan on replacing pistons if they are damaged, along with rings. the car is a second (acctually 3rd) car for me and i am buying it for AutoX to replace my at-the-end-of-its-road 90 turbo civic hatch. that being said i am already accustomed to FF handling, i can always go AWD later (yes, that was somewhat of an overstatment) acctually i just thought of something, the tranny swap will put me right to SM class. EDIT: no, this guy is not inclined enough to have taken the parts off himself. i sorta know him, he is not a car guy to say the least. the car had just gotten out of the shop for over $700 worth of work (tires, new ecu, vavle adj (lol), and some other stuff) reciept shown. he paid $300 for a new ECU, nobody in there right mind pays that much, they go on ebay and get one for 120.

Re: AWD with the AWD taken off?!
You can get working 1g AWD trannys for 300-500 bucks, and 1g tranny swaps are the tits. Not a big deal if the price is right.

thats the kinda thing i was looken for. ..."are the tits" ..does that translate into 'are pretty easy'? not that i could see it being hard. and i dont think the rest of the AWD stuff would cost me more than $400. acctually other than the tranny what else do i need? a driveshaft a transfer case and the 'axles' to go to the wheels right?

Re: AWD with the AWD taken off?!
Yes, 1g is pretty easy. 3 of the 4 mounts are on the motor, unlike a 1g that has 3 on the tranny. Makes it a good bit easier.
What else you need depends on what is missing. I assumed you were missing the tcase (150) and driveshaft (no idea), but if the rear axles were missing that'd be strange. The rear end is there according to your first post if I remmeber correctly, which is good, because thats probably the most expensive part since its probably a 4 bolt. Axles can be bought from a few places both local and online, or used from someone parting a car out.
