Unhappy Help! Damsil In Distress!!

AFTER GETTTING MY 96 ECLYPSE SPYDER BACK FROM A REPAIR SHOP IN COSTA MESA CALIFORNIA, WHERE THE HEADS AND BEARINGS WERE REDONE, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND UPON CHECKING THE OIL, FOUND THERE WAS A TRACE ON THE DIPSTICK. I ADDED OIL AND CALLED THE REPAIR SHOP.
SINCE THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME I HAD TO CALL THE SHOP AND TELL THEM SOMETHING WAS WRONG (MY CAR DIED AFTER 62 MILES THE FIRST TIME AND THEY TOWED IT BACK) i TOLD THE GUY THAT THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE CAR. he claims HE CHECKED BEFORE I left.
I took it to THE Mitsubishi dealership and this is what they said:
We have inspected your vehicle and have determined there is a broken piston as well as extensive damage
To the cylinder walls in #4. The best and most efficient way to correct this is to install a new shortblock.

THIS IS MY QUESTION:
WOULD THE LACK OF OIL CAUSE THIS DAMAGE?
WHAT OTHER SCENARIO WOULD CAUSE THIS PROBLEM?
WOULD YOU EXPECT THE ORIGINAL REPAIR SHOP TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS?

ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS ON HOW i CAN GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF WOULD BE APPRECIATED
THANKS GUYS

Re: Help! Damsil In Distress!!

OK FIRST OF ALL, PLEASE TAKE OFF THE CAPS LOCK.....

now that it's easier to read,
lack of oil, or no oil at all, could cause a broken piston, rod, or a combination of the two. if the repair shop had JUST done installed new bearings less than 100 miles ago, i would go back and make their asses pay for it, they should have noticed it if it was bad when they took it out, or they fucked it up when they put it back in. either way, this sort of engine damage could not occur on regular driving without the shop screwing something up. make the shop foot the bill and if they won't tell them you'll go to the Better Business Bureau, that should give them a little more incentive to work with you, and if they don't, report them to the Better Business Bureau.

Bless your heart for that touching moment of payback scenarios, I second the previous statement made by gthompson97.

Re: Help! Damsil In Distress!!

The BBB wont really do much, youre gonna have to pressure them with you pursuing legal action if you want to hold them accountable

Re: Help! Damsil In Distress!!

I'd make them pay but as much as people like to think some buisness's pay no attention to the BBB threats.. However if they wont help I would threaten but make sure you follow up on it. Just saying oh I'll go speak with the BBB wont get you very far if they aren't willing to cooperate.

the place where I work has about 20-30 threats a day from customers who simply did not read return policies and are sometimes 60-90 days outside of our's. We even give them information on how to contact the product manufacturer's and that it's still under the warantee. The threats don't do much anymore. However if we have done all we can and they file then it gets someones attention.
