Engine ticking

Hello,

I have an '02 GLS with about 40k miles on it. I'm hearing a ticking noise coming from under the hood when I start the car and when I'm idle in traffic or at a light. It seems a bit early in the life of the car to be having "ticking" noises.

I'll be taking it in to be looked at on the 7th and was wondering if anyone here might have any thoughts that I could have in the back of my head when I go in.

Thanks!

I have a 96 Elantra. Mine is an oil guzzler, and it ticks when it is low on oil. I usually ad a quart.

Dealership told me it was just the lifters warming up. Especially since the car wouldn't produce the same sound once I had driven it there. Go figure eh? Thanks.

Re: Engine ticking

That was a bull story The engine ticks on first cold start then the cold setting for the valves need adj. You adj the valves with a feeler gauge when the engine is cold
NOTE
Inspect and adjust the valve clearance when the engine is cold (Engine coolant temperature : 20°C) and cylinder head is installed on the cylinder block.

Valve Clearance (engine coolant temperature: 20°C)

[Specification]

Intake : 0.20 mm (0.0079 in.)

Exhaust : 0.28 mm (0.0110 in.)

[Limit]

Intake : 0.12-0.28 mm (0.0047-0.0110 in.)

Exhaust : 0.20-0.36 mm (0.0079-0.0142 in.)
