Talking 2002 astro van fuel pump problems

I gess the fuel pump's on the 2002 chev astro vans burn out at only 170,000 km because of a bad strainer on the system . Chev has redone the fuel pump but wonts like $889.00 cnd for the new pump. I just redid one useing a 92 chev cavalier pump with a new strainer . It looks the same but the one off the van has a second small line on it . Just remove that from the assembly that goes in the tank to let the fuel in . Works great and will save you a lot of mony .

Yes, GM wants alot for the pump assembly. If I read this right, you bought just the pump, for a '92 Cavalier (4 or 6cyl?), and it bolts up to the van assembly? And works correctly? Price?
Many thanks

the pump is from a 2.2L . The strainer with the mounting hole off to the one side . The plugin on the pumps are the same . Its the same size and shape . All you have to do is take the assembly apart remove the old pump and pull out the small black line and the peice it was attached too
replace the main fuel line then slide it back together .

The chevy astro has a 27gal tank therefore I think the pump goes deeper into the tank than the cavalier, also it may not pickup all the fuel and again if it does not go all of the way to the bottom of the tank it can swing and breakoff

I just measured my old fuel pump 99 and its 14 inches then fits into the tank, If you find a 96 or newer that length I think it would work GM's

On 2002 Chev van the pump sits in a spring loaded plastic clyinder wich is sold as a whole unit . Comes complete with sending unit and strainer you just drop it in and hook it up . Thats why GM wants so much mony for it . But i found the cheap way around replacing the whole unit

Re: Re: 2002 astro van fuel pump problems

You are right I just checked there is about 3inches play so as long as it contacts the bottom of the tank any late model fuel pump would work.
