car sluggish. are turbos fried?
my cars been sluggish the last few days. i notice i have an exhaust leak and i have to get that fixed because it makes a rattling noise as the exhuast is loose but my car is slow. when i floor it its hit or miss if the car will actually accelerate fast, but its mostly miss. any suggestions to figure out for sure if it is the turbos? i know i can get some used stock turbos off ebay but does anybody know how much they would cost new? hows the installation? how much would that cost?

Re: car sluggish. are turbos fried?
More like $3-400 used, no one buys new because for about the same price you can get upgrades like DR-500s, 15Gs, or modified 13T WRX turbos. Check your spark plugs (very easy, just look at the front 3 and you'll get a good idea if they're fouled or not the right ones or whatever, should only take 5 minutes, if you don't know how just ask). When I bought my VR4 it was the same way because the wrong plugs were put in and they were realy gunked up and old.

Yep, check your plugs and fuel filter first...they make a difference.

if your turbos are shot, one of two things would be happening. Either you'll be blowing out blue smoke from the exhuast or you will have lots of oil in your intake piping due to worn out seals on your turbo. Or #2, you will hear the famous turbo whine of death, and you'll know it when you hear it. This means you have soo much shaft play that the wheel is scraping against the housing. The only other thing that could possibly make a turbo bad is if something got sucked in and destroyed the compressor wheel, and which you can just pull off the intake pipe and look at that.
But yea, for new 9b turbos, you might as well upgrade.
