transmission problems???

Gentlemen, I have a 93' 150 econoline. The family van is acting crazy!!! The van only starts in neutral. When the van is in park, it will start but die very quickly. It also dies in reverse. Today I tried driving the van on car ramps, it didn't have enough power to get up on them. Also when I start it in neutral, it pulls forward slightly like its between gears. I don't want to believe its the transmission. What is wrong with the family-van??

5/1/05 I solved 1 problem - The reason the vehicle shutsoff in park/reverse is the neutral safety switch went bad. This is located on the steering wheel column.
