Invader hood installed ***PICS*** some questions.

I went all the way to LA from San Diego to pick this ViS Invader CF hood up; saved $170 shipping, so I'm happy!

Installed it the minute I got back home. Looks ***awesome*** (in my humble opinion, ofcourse, lol).

Some issues and/or questions:

1) Stock w/s washer nozzels don't fit.

2) There are no holes to pin the stock under hood heat shield in. Putting on a turbo wrap is going to be a hassel, heat shield seems feasable. So...how to stick the heat shield to the new hood? Are there any temp. resistant sticky things Kragen sells, or would I have to resort to drilling new holes (which I want to AVOID like the plague... cf doesnt like to be drilled).

3) Doing only 10 psi right now (for daily driving), there won't be enough heat generated from the turbo to melt the hood (regardless of the fact that its a VIS hood). Am I correct to think that?

4) The vent is open... and just by chance, it rained today. Cold rain on a very hot turbo or manifold: not good, I think. The vent seems to just miss the turbo and header, but sits over the fan unit and some part of the intake. Any advice from people who have run invader hoods on 2G turbo DSMs? Any issues with rain?

5) Many CF hoods get hairline cracks that can be seen through the resin. These cracks may not be easy on the eyes, but the hoods structural integrity is retained regardless...am I right?

6) I am going to get hood pins. Does anyone know the labor a performance shop would charge?

God damn!!! Your spyder is the best lookin Spyder I have ever seen! I love that shit! And that hood make the car look so agressive! Keep up the good work.

This heat shield your talking about... I do not see anything that resembles a heat shield on my car. Is this because I have the 420a and I do not need one, because I have a FG hood that is going on my car soon, and I dont need a problem....

Everyone has a boner for your car, including me. Looks savage.

1) I think it looks cleaner without them, wouldn't worry. Just think weight reduction. There's one ounce gone, lol

2) Tape would fail, organic adhesives might work better, like most of the stuff that's archival/museum quality. There has to be a specialized application, though. Kragen will sell something that works, I'd bet. Since you're in socal anyway, call a speedshop in the area and see what they offer.

Since your hood is VIS, the underside is fiberglass, which is a little more friendly to drill through, if you have to. As you said, that would suck.

Exhaust wrap and turbo wrap really work, but they don't look so good. A heat sheild would still need to be used in conjunction, I think.

3) The exhaust manifold will still be hot. It's not a problem for temporary use, just wouldn't make it a long term solution. The worst horror stories I've heard have been hoods cracking (without the heat sheild) a year after purchase. A few weeks should be no big deal.

4) No idea. Metal that cools by water contracts faster than metal that cools by air, it causes warping. That's one reason rotors get messed up. Water splashing on a hot manifold probably adds stress for that reason.

5) Yep. It can be repaired, too.

6) Ask them how much they charge to attach a heat shield The pins are probably a half hour to hours work, I'd think 60 at the worst. Still a bit of money considering the cost of the pins. Maybe not so much money considering the cost of the hood.


Sorry my answers suck, I was hoping someone else would respond to help before me.

Edit>> Hardcore Tape #1 I like number 3, with temperature resistance to 1000 degrees celcius.

Doublesided is harder to find. Hardcore Tape #2

Kinda looks like fun to play with. I guess doublesided, high temp resistance, and no residue are the three things to look for.

your vis hood should have come with rainguards that are inside around the vetn to direct the water off to the sides. since you got it used you could try contacting vis and see if they can sell them to you seperately. just say the old ones broke lol

Id say your car looked better with the red hood and the hood bra on it. ^^ just my 2 cent

To be honost with you, I also think that your car looked better with the stock hood. I just don't like how the VIS hood sticks out so much at the part where the vent is. But your car looks none the less. Good job.

Not to thread jack, but how do you like your projector headlights? How do they compare to stock? Do they put out decent amount of light and do you have any pics of the cutoff pattern or anything like that?

Thanks GSX_Hooptie. I need that heat shield and those hoodpins soon... I'm a nervous wreck these days, expecting my hood to either fly up at any moment on the freeway, or find molten fiberglass on my motor. lol!

These housings look really cool, I havent seen too many of them around. They really make a huge change in the appearance of the front end.

Structurally, they don't leak (after having been through lots of rain), BUT while washing my car, some condensation forms on the inside of the housing, and goes away in a few hours.

The lighting is ok, but factory style bulbs wont work. Mine came with bulbs, but Ive never seen this type before...theyre super thin, and have no plastic holder thing at the end. The halo ring stopped working after 2 weeks. A guy at the meet also had the same lights with exactly the same issues, so Im guessing its a common problem. However, you cant beat the look for $180 shipped... my 2 cents!
