86 GM Qs

Hi all,

Just got a 1986 GM today. It's in great shape...153000 miles, no rust, great interior. Only some minor mechanical problems that I wanted to ask about.

First is the spedo. It's accurate as far as I know (haven't been pulled over yet), but it squeeks/rattles enough to drive me nuts. Any suggestions on quieting it down?

Most of the other Qs i had were awnsered here. The car has a small fuel line leak under the passenger side door with is getting fixed. It definately needs new shocks (i've owned large, older cars in the past, and this one rools way to much and is just too floaty to be "normal"). New brakes, plugs, cables, distributor, filters, fluids, etc.

The only other Q i had was about exhaust. It has stock single exhaust. The muffler and pipe are in good shape (haven't looked at the header or runners yet), but there is a small leak where the runners connect to the cat converter. How difficult (if even possible) to convert this car to a dual exhaust? Is it even worth the time/effort?

Are there any other points that I should look for? Overall, it seems like a great car. Stalls from time to time, but that could be related to the fuel leak or IAV, plugs, dist., any number of things, which are all getting replaced. I have about 1800 bucks to dump into this car and I want to make sure It's gonna be around for a while. May even get a new paint job .

Please share thoughs and thanks to all who give input!!

The speedo you may be able to lube from the rear; I don't know how (as I sold my 86) to open up the dash though.

When I went to put new exhaust on mine, they had single exhaust for about 275 and factory-style duals for about 450. There are hang points on the frame for the duals and it should bolt right up.
