Re: Woofer/ Bass test

track six. woofer excusion test. this track will test the woofers ability to reproduce sub bass frequencies without reaching the limits of its voice coil or suspension. be sure to disengage any equalizers, epicenters or any other bass enhancement devices, as they will not be needed for this track. booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooom boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo om.

awesome track, i downloaded it off winmx. its insane

Re: Woofer/ Bass test

Bottoming out can be anumer of things. what ever is the limiting factor of the woofers suspension.
Generally it is either the voice coild crashing into the back plate, or the spyder hitting the top plate. it can also mean reaching the limits of the cone/surround.

That track's purpose is to see if the subwoofer can reach THX certification standards without having to push the woofer to full Xmech (maximum mechanical limits of the driver).

as for you 6x9's. Well they are OEM POS. usually, and i do say usually and not all the time, you will reach the limits of the cone before the coil crashes into the back plate or the spyder the top plate. this is because thye have small surrounds and paper cones and weak motors that i doubt can harnes enough force to crash the coil into the back plate. the distortion is usually distortion from the amplifier (especially the stock HU, has a TON of distortion at full volume and very often some clipping). However it may also be the same type of distortion you get from SPL woofers. as the coil nears the end of the gap BL drops off and if it leaves the gap movement becomes non linear. and with a crappy suspension made in pakistan like most OEM speakers, the suspension cannot controll the cone causing it to sort of wave. this usually cant be seen because, well stock speakers may have to move 2mm to go out of gap. but if you look at http://realmofexcursion.com/videos/D...gns/9515.2.wmv that movie you will see what i mean. it is a DD9515 (DD is an SPL based company) with 2800w, free air. this particalr driver doesnt have a TON of Xmax but it does have a crap load of Xmech and a very strong motor capeable of pushing the cone very far. you will see the cone wave instad of move straight back and forth. you may laso notice the horible sound it is making...same dela with your stoack speakers only on a much smaller scale.

Re: Woofer/ Bass test

wow.... great explanation. well ill try it on my new 6x9's that i got today, not sure if ill be able to install them, since it looks like its going to rain and i dont have a garage, but i can fit inside my trunk... so i might just lay in it and install them.
