3.8L in a grand am?

Is it possible for a 3800 to fit in my grand am that has a 3100?...if so how hard will it be to put one in there?

Re: 3.8L in a grand am?

I know that its sorta sudden from the thread i already put up and you can still reply to it. I know that the newer GA have the 3.4L V6 in them but how much faster are they than the 3.1L?..just wondering on this one.

Re: 3.8L in a grand am?

I don't know if it can be done but I would think that it would be a big BIG job and the problems that go along with it would be great. Things like the emmission controls and the main wiring harness as well as all of the computer hastles. I think that the only way that it would be worth it would be if you were building a show car.

As for the 3.1L vs the 3.4L I have no clue I have a 2.4L quad with the 5spd manual tranny.

Sorry...not too much help this time.
Dan

Re: 3.8L in a grand am?

i think you should go with the 3.4 instead cause the computer and a lot of other things are the same as the 3.1

Re: 3.8L in a grand am?

the only reason i didnt want to do that is because im worried about the cast-iron block and aluminum heads, the 3800 have the cast-iron block, cast-iron heads, so i dont have to replaice head gaskets, before i bought my GA they did that right before they sold it to me.

Re: 3.8L in a grand am?

true! I always wanted to swap the 3.8 for my 3.1 but i think the 3.4 is just a lot easier. In the long run. Good luck!

if you got the 3.1 and want a power boost, www.mantapart.com has a performance cam for $175 and you dont have to replace the ecm.
