Question Stereo problems

I have a 1999 cavalier and the 1,3,4 and 6 programed channel buttons went out. I was just wondering if it is a wiring problem or that it's just because the LED lights went out. Also every once in awhile I'll be driving and it doesnt matter if im listening to a cd or the radio and it just kind of shorts out and turns off. What may have caused this?
