Re: polished/polishing valve cover (big pics)

thanks. I just took a drill with 3'' wire brush in it and went at it, used a dremmell with a smaller wire brush to get in the tighter spots, still need to go back and go over it once more. I started doing the heat sheild too but im gonna have to remove it to get it real good but it was polishing just the same as the valve cover.

Re: polished/polishing valve cover (big pics)

you should be able to polish the letters with some sort of mag/aluminum polish. it'll take quite a bit of rubbing but eventually they'll become a mirror shine. same thing with the heat shield.

Re: polished/polishing valve cover (big pics)

The valve cover on my motor was polished by my brother in his spare time at work. It takes a loong time to get a real good finish on it. The wire wheel is a good start. You're next step would be a cotton or similar wheel in some type of rotary tool, with various levels of abrasive cutting and polishing compounds.

In this pic its very dirty since when the motor blew the front water pipe popped out and spewed bullshit all over the car, and I never clean it anyway. The spark plug area was not done. But just over the CAS you can get an idea of the level of shine on the rest of it. Looks very similar to the BJ's Intake Manifold. In the sun it looks pretty cool.

An air filter can never be big enough

Re: polished/polishing valve cover (big pics)

I polished my 1g bov with a cotton wheel on a dremel and some stainless steel polishing compound from Home Depot. It turned out nice but on a couple places, like the edges, it looks darker like it polished down to some other metal or something. Haven't been able to figure it out.

Re: polished/polishing valve cover (big pics)

if you have a da (dual-action) sander you can put some 600 on there and sand it down and clean it up and then use the cotton dremel wheel to polish it.

Mine has a similar effect, very wel polished on the edges. I think it cuts faster on the curved edge, thats all. So ultimately the whole cover could look like that, but on a flat surface it takes longer to cut it down (force spread over more surface area).

Re: polished/polishing valve cover (big pics)

Sounds like you need some 550cc injectors to go with that Evo 16g! If you or ANYONE is looking for some, I have them forsale.

Nice job on the Valve Cover. When I did mine I polished the whole thing on a 12" grinder with a wire wheel and it was shiny as hell. But I still wanted to paint it and I like it that way better anyways.
