blow off valve questions....z32 TT

okay ive heard that a BOV on a z32 TT will give it a bad idel which is reasonable because the air coming from the resirc valve is already being counted in by the intake sensor...i have the jwt ecu pgrade and my stock boost gauge is saying that im running 14 psi when the car is good and warmed up. now im deff. gettin a after market boost gauge so i can make sure there are no spikes (even though there shouldnt be) with running 14psi should i get a set of HKS BOVs?, because next to the cool sound from what i hear they are useless because the stock resirc valves are just as good..... and if i did get them would i have to buy the resirc kit....my friend has a 2004 evo VIII and he just bought a hks bov for his car and he has the resirc kit on it and it seems pretty much useless...im confused so any imput will deff. help.........

Re: blow off valve questions....z32 TT

the idle shouldn't be affected too much by a bov, it's when you let off the throttle between shifts that the car runs rich, because air is still being passed through the maf and is being vented out the bov... however, the car thinks that's being stockpiled/sucked into the engine, so it compensates for it by adding more fuel, but since the air isn't there, your mixture goes super rich until the throttle plate opens and normal airflow resumes.

what a recirc valve does is takes that air and takes it from the charge pipe(s) and vents it back into the intake piping (ideally straight at the compressor wheel in the direction it's spinning) so there is no air lost thru the system.. keeping the stock recircs, or getting upgraded ones (hks ssqv with recirc kit) is ideal, but who can resist the sound of a bov? when i get my next turbocharged car, i'm going to make an attatchment to the bov where i can select if it vents to air or back into the intake piping. vent to air for daily driving, and recirc for track days.... i'm sure there's a way to rig up an automated switch attatched to a solenoid that switches the plate from side to side...

thats all too much work...for such little effect.

ideally, the sole purpose of a BOV is to remove air from the charged pipe and bogging down your turbo when it tries to spool again. yes, a recirc is the best because in a sense your not losing any of your already pressurized air but it really doesnt matter, as long as its out of the piping.

if you like the sound, buy a aftermarket open atmosphere BOV kit, if you can deal without the sound then just stick with the stocks until they start releasing pressure when they arent supposed to. then buy an aftermarket set...

im personally going with the Turbo X's RFL BOV kit...sounds very loud and good on a TT Z. i dont really care for the SSQ's for the simple fact that they are way overpriced for what they are. if i was gonna spend some serious cash flow on some BOV's it would be the tials...
