Signal Light Problems

What part would I need to replace in this situation.

I have a 1989 Chevy Cavalier.

My dashboard blinkers would only work intermittently, that is sometimes they would flash to fast other times it would just stay on. Well, finally, it has completely stopped working all together.

I have check the fuses and also changed the part that makes them blink with no success. Would this be a deeper electrical problem?

Thanks.

Does the brake light work still? Maybe the socket has gone bad.

Re: Signal Light Problems

Intermittent failure often results from an inconsistent filament connection in the bulb. Try a high quality bulb. I had this recurring problem with Unival bulbs. If the electrical system is switched from a heavy load to a light load while signalling the blink rate often does speed up. My bet is on the bulb though.

The brake lights still work, but now the blinker in the dash as well as the signal lights on the outside of the car don't work.

Re: Signal Light Problems

It would appear the wiring to/from the blinker relay needs some t-shooting. There's always the chance the second relay is bad too. Relays come in two flavors (still). Solid state and analog. Which one are you using? Lastly, the blinker assy on the steering column could be gone screwy.
