Question 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Within the last two weeks my jeep after starting and driving started having the dome light flick on and off and shortly followed by 3 beeps a pause and then 3 more beeps. It does this from time to time while driving. I called the local dealership and they have no idea. What the heck is it? thanks....

Mine just started doing the same thing about two weeks ago only it makes a clicking sound rather than a beep. Sounds almost like the turn signal.
It's pretty annoying to have it flashing and clicking while I'm driving but of course it didn't do it for the mechanic. He was kind of a condescending creep about it too.

Re: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

mine just started yesterday, but i know what it is. its the door switches that cause that. after awhile of being pressed in and out for hundreds of times they wear out. I've been told you can buy them for around $11 each. If you find some for sale, let me know because I live in Iceland and they don't have them here. If you have more questions, I can explain it in more detail.

The door switches? Like the power locks? I haven't had any problem with them. Could you explain further?

I figure I have a loose wire or fuse or something somewhere.

Well I ended up taking it to a local dealer who could not replicate what was happening. He hooked up some kind of electrical adapter that reads the sensors related to the computer display and could find nothing wrong, but since the "door ajar" is the common thing that always came on we have decided to replace the door sensor switch ($11.00). I have had to wait a couple of days for the new sensor and in that time the problems happened 3 more times, with my entire family as a witness, proving I'm not crazy ha! I will add to this to let everyone know if the sensor fixed the problem...

Re: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

as you open each door, there is a black push button that the door makes contact with when it is closed. There is one screw holding it in. Those are what is bad. I pulled out (disconnected) my bad one and haven't had a problem with it since. Eventually I'll replace it

Are they difficult to replace? Is it just a matter of unhooking the old one and plugging in a new one?
I examined mine yesterday. The ones for the back doors stick out farther than the ones for the front doors, so one of the front ones is probably the culprit.
Also, on the actual doors themselves, where the little buttons hit, there are dents. Probably from people slamming the doors too hard. I'm experimenting with covering those little dents and so far, so good. I haven't driven much since then, but everything seems to be working right at the moment.

Re: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

They are very easy to change. I can change one in about 20 seconds. Like I said previously, there is only one screw holding it in and then a quick disconnect connector that you squeeze on the tab to allow it to unlock. Yes the compressed one(s) are bad. My bad one was compressed as well. I'm not sure about the dents, but I think with new switches it doesn't matter because they will make contact where they need to. ENJOY!
